What believers are saying

  • ABB said Sunrise raised throughput 20 percent, from 72 to 90 parts hourly.
  • Sunrise emerged from stealth with $8.5 million from Plural, Seedcamp, Tapestry, Tiny.vc.
  • Job postings in 2026 show active hiring across engineering, product, and deployments.

What critics are saying

  • Sunrise depends on ABB GoFa; ABB pricing or supply changes squeeze deployments quickly.
  • Seed funding came in June 2025; cash pressure rises if customer rollouts slow.
  • Industrial incumbents like ABB and Fanuc can bundle hardware, service, and financing against Sunrise.

What makes Sunrise unique

  • Sunrise pairs AI software with ABB GoFa hardware, shipping industrial cells within 18 months.
  • Simulation-first robotic cells target high-mix manufacturing, not brittle single-task automation.
  • Ljubljana founders Tomaz Stolfa and Marko Thaler bring serial startup and robotics expertise.

Sunrise Robotics reports productivity gains using ABB GoFa cobots.

Sunrise Robotics reports productivity gains using ABB GoFa cobots. Sunrise Robotics has increased production throughput by 20 per cent after deploying ABB Robotics' GoFa cobots within its autonomous manufacturing cells. The Slovenia-based technology company, which develops AI-driven robotic systems for small and medium-sized manufacturers, said output rose from 72 to 90 parts per hour following adjustments to the cobot's motion parameters. The improvement was achieved through software changes alone, without modifications to hardware or artificial intelligence models. Sunrise Robotics develops autonomous robotic cells designed to carry out tasks including pick-and-place operations, positioning and machine tending in environments where people and robots work alongside one another. The systems combine AI, machine vision and radar-based safety technologies to operate within manufacturing settings that require flexibility and adaptability. The company selected ABB Robotics' GoFa cobot following an evaluation of the collaborative robot market. Key requirements included a large working range for pallet handling, high positional accuracy, operational speed and a software architecture capable of supporting real-time AI applications. According to Sunrise Robotics, GoFa serves as the physical execution layer for its AI-powered platform, carrying out movement and manipulation tasks based on real-time data and decision-making processes generated by its software. Long-term reliability and global support capabilities also influenced the company's decision, with Sunrise citing spare parts availability and technical support as important factors for maintaining customer operations. Robert Bevec, product lead at Sunrise Robotics, said: "When you're deploying an intelligent, autonomous cell into a customer's production environment, every component must earn its place. ABB Robotics' GoFa arms give us the performance we need and the brand trust that makes our customers even more confident in what we've built." The company also highlighted the benefits of ABB's Robotstudio software, which enables engineers to remotely manage and restore systems if operational issues arise. Sunrise said this capability has reduced the need for site visits and helped minimise downtime for customers with limited experience of industrial robotics. Jose Manuel Bonilla Jimenez, customer success specialist at Sunrise Robotics, said: "GoFa's open control architecture gave Operations Engineer the foundation to connect its AI directly to the physical world. By leveraging its flexible motion control capabilities, Operations Engineer increased throughput from 72 to 90 parts per hour through a single parameter change, with no modifications to its software, hardware or AI stack. "That kind of flexibility is exactly what you need when you're optimising live deployments for real customers." Sunrise uses a combination of Robot Web Services and Externally Guided Motion technologies to manage robotic operations. The system enables both routine process control and real-time motion adjustments, allowing robots to adapt to changing conditions within the production environment. Alessio Cocchi, global head of cobot sales at ABB Robotics, said: "By combining GoFa with AI in a proven collaborative robotics solution, organisations like Sunrise are enabled to innovate faster while maintaining the reliability their customers expect." SUNRISING AI raises over $14 million within six months of founding. Published: March 25, 2026 Want to read in a language you're more familiar with? Industrial embodied AI startup SUNRISING AI has raised over $14 million in multiple early-stage rounds within six months of its founding, with IDG Capital among the co-leads. SUNRISING AI, an industrial embodied AI startup, has raised more than $14 million (≈ RMB 100 million) across multiple early-stage funding rounds within six months of its founding. The latest round was co-led by IDG Capital and Oriental Fortune Capital, with participation from EFORT Intelligent Equipment, 01VC, DaTai Capital, and L2F Ventures. The funds will be used for core technology development, productization, and commercialization. Founded in April 2025 by former Alibaba AutoNavi technical director Zhang Tao and Tsinghua University professor Li Shengbo, the company focuses on wheeled industrial robots for automotive manufacturing. Zhang said industrial operations combine "structured environments with complex tasks," with automotive final assembly representing a market worth hundreds of billions of yuan. On the technology side, SUNRISING AI has developed a high-smoothness neural network architecture for industrial manipulation, using reinforcement learning instead of imitation learning to improve precision and success rates. To address the shortage of real-world data, the company increases reliance on simulation data and has built its proprietary GOPS platform to modularize model development and enable scalable deployment. The company has already partnered with multiple automakers and completed initial proof-of-concept (POC) deployments in real production environments. It plans to enter at least 10 automotive manufacturers and deploy over 1,000 robots within three years.
