About the job
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or three years of experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
- Previous experience in a patient-facing role is required.
- Three years of experience is required when the candidate has not completed a Medical Assistant program.
- Current Basic Life Support or cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, office workflow, electronic medical record systems, and Windows-based applications is required.
- Proficiency in standard precautions, confidentiality, interpersonal communication, and time management is required.
- The ability to multitask, adapt to changing environments, and work as part of a team is required.
- Participate in patient care in person, by telephone, and through telehealth under provider supervision.
- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and immunizations, and perform point-of-care testing.
- Collect and screen patient history and health-related information and communicate findings to providers.
- Document care activities accurately in the medical record.
- Assist with pre-visit preparation, including coordinating testing and patient outreach.
- Perform administrative duties such as maintaining medical records and completing patient service tasks as needed.
- Mentor and train new staff as directed.
- Attend ongoing education programs and maintain annual competencies.
- Adhere to safety, infection control, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and confidentiality guidelines.
- Maintain current certifications, including Basic Life Support.
- Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants, or ABR-OE certification is preferred.
- One year of experience in a medical practice or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Direct patient care experience is strongly preferred.
