Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment.
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the health care team.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy setting.
  • Knowledge of radiology information systems.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation where applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Provide support for the delivery of a full range of medical imaging procedures under the direct and indirect supervision of a registered professional technologist.
  • Greet patients upon arrival to the Radiology department and facilitate the patient’s department experience.
  • Answer phone calls in a timely and courteous manner while identifying self and unit.
  • Verify the completeness of written orders and notify ordering physicians of inaccuracies.
  • Support Radiologic Technologists in planning and executing routine imaging procedures according to department standards.
  • Prepare patients for basic examinations and diagnostic procedures according to department procedure.
  • Inform appropriate personnel when patients arrive for appointments.
  • Assess patient comfort needs and provide support accordingly.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed to facilitate routine imaging services.
  • Safely assist with the transport and handling of patients according to the patient handling policy.
  • Escort patients to and from procedure rooms and assist with arrival and departure from the department.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment according to department procedures to help prevent or control infection.
  • Interact positively with technical, support, nursing, resident, and medical staff to promote a team approach to Radiology services.
  • Observe and immediately report patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered technologist, nurse, or physician.
  • Assist with routine unit operations to support communication and functioning of the unit.
  • Coordinate outpatient and inpatient department workflow by maintaining communication between the department and patient floors, the emergency department, and the operating room.
  • Assist patients with gowning and basic physical care to promote comfort.
  • Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation to support efficient, high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Facilitate transportation of inpatient and emergency department patients to and from the imaging department.
  • Transport patients back to the emergency department following imaging procedures.
  • Assist computed tomography with transporting patients and maintaining workflow.
