About the job
- A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 12 years of claims-handling experience in the insurance industry, or a high school diploma with 16 years of relevant experience.
- At least 8 years of general liability claims experience and commercial auto claims-handling experience involving exposures of $250,000 or more, including primary and excess losses.
- Excellent coverage analysis skills and experience drafting coverage-position correspondence.
- Extensive experience with general liability, construction defect, garage, and commercial trucking claims, including identifying coverage issues.
- Experience handling litigated files and directing defense counsel.
- Excellent negotiation skills handled primarily by the file handler.
- Ability to travel an average of four days per month.
- Licensure as required by the respective states.
- Ability to analyze data, use sound judgment to draw conclusions, and make supported decisions.
- Authorized to work in the United States and not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Handle highly complex exposure claims based on Claim Guidelines.
- Direct and manage independent investigators, appraisers, and experts.
- Select, direct, and manage defense counsel, including approval of defense budgets.
- Develop litigation and file-disposition strategies.
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Report to reinsurers as required by reporting guidelines.
- Interact with and provide alerts to underwriting business partners.
- Escalate all time-limit demands to management.
- Assist senior claim specialists with analysis of claim issues as needed.
- Verify and analyze applicable coverage for reported losses.
- Establish 24-hour contact and maintain appropriate contact with all involved stakeholders throughout the life of the claim file.
- Investigate claims by gathering information, conducting interviews, taking statements, conducting website research as needed, and reviewing and analyzing reports and related bills.
- Identify and address subrogation, contribution, and special-investigations-unit opportunities.
- Set accurate and timely loss and expense reserves in compliance with Claim Guidelines.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and authorize settlements with stakeholders within designated authority.
- Select, direct, and manage vendors and counsel, including approval of defense budgets.
- Negotiate directly with claimants and claimant attorneys upon receipt of critical information.
- Draft correspondence, including coverage letters to stakeholders as required.
- Maintain resident and nonresident adjuster licenses as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- CPCU and other insurance-related studies.
- Construction defect claim-handling experience.
