  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details for construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents using information from vendor equipment drawings and determine load-center unit-substation loading.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for motor control centers, variable-frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load-center unit substations, and 15kV/5kV equipment such as switchgear, load-break switches, and motor control centers; perform calculations for required short-circuit and overcurrent protective-device ratings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to produce a 15kV power-system single-line diagram and familiarity with 15kV power-system equipment and above- and below-ground installation techniques.
  • Ability to develop electrical installation specifications, design criteria, and scopes of work.
  • Ability to accurately estimate task completion, develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules and man-hour budgets for small projects or areas of larger projects, and determine construction material quantities.
  • Experience estimating and scheduling professional-service hours and assessing the progress and quality of electrical/instrumentation work.
  • Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform engineering and design functions.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and computer-aided design (CAD) drafting standards; working knowledge of CAD software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both.

  • Produce professional-service estimates according to department standards for project deliverables, studies, estimates, change notices, and proposal efforts to develop new work.
  • Establish design criteria incorporating client requirements, estimate or scope basis, and design basis while meeting applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes; ensure permitting requirements are established and communicated to the project team.
  • Monitor scope and deliverables and initiate timely change notices when deviations affect schedule, deliverables, or cost.
  • Plan and organize team work and communicate the plan to the team, project leadership, and client.
  • Control projects by tracking discipline-budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards, and use project-control tools.
  • Delegate work to engineers and designers according to their technical skills and experience, and follow up to support efficient progress and quality.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines according to their technical skills and experience, and follow up to support efficient progress and quality.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the estimate level.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
  • Use department design and drafting standards.
  • Produce detailed design calculations and construction-material sketches, organized for checking, drawing preparation, and delivery when required.
  • Produce project designs that use construction materials efficiently, are easy to construct, and meet client expectations.
