Requirements
  • Applicants must have completed, or be approaching completion of, the most recent TTP Residency Program at BMCC, including a minimum of two capstone projects with active contribution during the Summer 2025 occupational training period.
  • Applicants must have an associate degree or be associate degree-seeking in computer science or a related field.
  • Applicants must be proficient in fullstack web development, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, Express, React, Redux, relational database management systems, and object-relational mapping tools.
  • Applicants must be proficient in developer tools such as the command-line interface or terminal, Postman, Visual Studio Code, Postico, and pgAdmin.
  • Applicants must be proficient in project-management tools such as Jira, ClickUp, Monday, Asana, Notion, or Trello.
  • Applicants must be proficient in industry-standard Git workflows and GitHub, including GitHub Projects and GitHub Pages.
  • Applicants must be proficient in development operations related to continuous integration, continuous delivery, deployment, or hosting using Netlify or Vercel.
  • Applicants must be familiar with implementation details of the Open Authorization protocol.
Responsibilities
  • Review instructional material to prepare for help tickets.
  • Provide students with resources for technical knowledge and technical-skill support.
  • Complete help tickets involving tool installation, tool configuration, and problem-solving related to in-class assignments, homework assignments, or capstone projects.
  • Identify blockers affecting a student's project.
  • Guide students to verbalize their thought process.
  • Unblock students through advisement, technical project-management techniques, or escalation to another instructional staff member.
  • Function as a scrum master for capstone projects and contribute to brainstorming about frontend design, file structure, and project scope.
  • Participate in one weekly sync-up meeting with the instructional staff and, if available, the program manager.
  • Review classwork and homework submissions for links, accessible links, correct project links, last-commit time, total commits, and commits per group member.
  • Hold mandatory office hours Monday through Thursday in two thirty-minute segments.
  • Track individual aggregate contributions at the end of each capstone project using commit history and copy the results into an internal document.
  • Flag areas for improvement in student progress within an internal document.
  • Proctor the monthly quiz with assigned students.
  • Conduct exit interviews with assigned students.
  • Adjust deadlines when appropriate, including by polling students when useful.
  • Adapt agendas, schedules, end-of-day announcements, pair programming, office hours, and code reviews to challenging topics or demo days.
  • Adapt support dynamically by shifting from inbound help-ticket support to proactive check-ins across capstone groups when needed.
  • Build students' self-efficacy and guide them through the pace and intensity of a bootcamp.
  • Facilitate capstone topic ideation.
  • Develop students' first-principles programming skills alongside artificial-intelligence-assisted approaches.
  • Clarify the limitations of third-party application programming interfaces.
  • Support students with intermediate capstone concepts and implementations, including WebSockets, cron jobs, service workers, throttling, debouncing, caching, WebRTC, pagination, filters, sorts, and searches.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving Node installation, cross-origin resource sharing, PostgreSQL installation, responsive web design, Auth0 login behavior, detached HEAD states, JSON request bodies, Git stash workflows, Git repository zones, and Express request-body parsing.
  • Participate in project work, help-ticket support, daily standups, pair programming or code review, weekly instructional staff meetings, end-of-day announcements, and Demo Day activities according to the scheduled program calendar.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience working at a software-engineering, cybersecurity, or data-science bootcamp; in a technical instructional role in a CUNY or CUNY-related program; or as a collegiate adjunct for a computer-science course.
  • Familiarity with Figma, Lucidchart, Tailwind, Bulma, rate limiting, hashing and salting, and cross-origin resource sharing.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Firebase, user-interface and user-experience principles, React Native, and TypeScript.
  • Prior experience as an apprentice, intern, freelance, associate, junior, or senior software engineer.
  • Prior experience as a solutions engineer, sales engineer, quality-assurance professional, quality engineer, software development engineer in test, scrum master, or user-interface, user-experience, graphic-design, or digital-design professional.
  • Prior experience in data engineering, data science, cybersecurity, or artificial intelligence.
  • Prior experience with hackathons, open-source contributions, bug bounties, published scholarly works or research, a computer science degree, or a teaching-assistant or supplemental-instruction equivalent during undergraduate or graduate studies.
