Requirements
  • Experience working with children or adults in a camp or outdoor recreational setting is required.
  • Understanding of childhood development and group management in a general camp setting is required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification are required.
  • A TB test is required.
  • Ability to successfully complete YMCA Camp Erdman’s High Ropes Facilitator Training is required.
  • Ability to successfully complete YMCA Lifeguard Training is required.
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, complete mandatory Praesidium training, and report child-protection concerns is required.
  • Successful completion of comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Senior Program Director to create staff schedules for Outdoor Education groups and ensure appropriate coverage of all activities.
  • Oversee Program Instructors to ensure they are on time and prepared for their activities and answer questions that arise.
  • Lead and manage staff on a daily basis.
  • Assist with creating staff schedules.
  • Maintain and care for program areas, including the live animal museum and native plant nursery.
  • Manage supplies and inventory for all activities.
  • Oversee the general efficiency of activities throughout the day.
  • Understand and support the YMCA philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Serve as a role model and develop positive, meaningful relationships with youth.
  • Provide children with opportunities to make new friends and learn new activities.
  • Support camper development and growth.
  • Monitor health and safety concerns.
  • Ensure every camper is included in the group.
  • Follow program policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Promote team spirit and effort among staff and children.
  • Use camp supplies and recreational equipment, office supplies, and office machines appropriately.
  • Attend assigned training, meetings, and YMCA functions.
  • Work extended hours as required, including some evening and weekend activities and training.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • College experience is preferred.
  • Ropes facilitation experience is preferred.
  • YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is preferred.
