Responsibilities
  • Implement research-based instructional strategies that direct student learning and achievement.
  • Individualize instruction based on students' learning styles, learning rates, maturation levels, and achievement levels.
  • Vary instructional materials, rate, and methodology in response to student differences and frequent assessment.
  • Serve students with all disabilities and gifted and talented students across all grades, including preschool, using varied support services and settings.
  • Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment.
  • Use formative and summative assessment and student achievement data to identify proficiency levels, plan programs, and evaluate instructional effectiveness.
  • Develop harmonious and cooperative relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members.
  • Promote and support School District goals defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
  • Participate in educational committees and organizations for personal growth and professional promotion.
  • Develop awareness of local culture and provide bicultural or multicultural instruction responsive to community interests and needs.
  • Use Rubicon Atlas to complete culture-based unit development requirements.
  • Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals in providing services to students as needed.
  • Follow the professional code of ethics and teaching standards adopted by the Professional Teaching Practice Commission of Alaska.
  • Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal and maintain digital copies throughout the year.
  • Comply with all district policies and regulations.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
  • Travel within and outside the North Slope Borough School District.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree.
  • Three years of experience in education.
  • Experience with Inupiaq language, history, and culture.
