  • Experience working in a clinical laboratory setting and familiarity with laboratory protocols and safety standards.
  • Four years of related work experience, including two years in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists under the general supervision of the laboratory manager.
  • Process specimens through registration and accessioning using a laboratory information system.
  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory activities supporting laboratory operations.
  • Prepare samples and specimens.
  • Track, maintain, and file patient materials and samples.
  • Maintain, organize, distribute, and order laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Perform daily quality control checks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with clinical and research tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with local, federal, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Understand and follow the technical, procedural, and safety requirements of the department.
  • Evaluate, implement, and practice new methodologies according to department guidelines.
  • Analyze and resolve problems independently as appropriate and in response to management feedback and observation.
  • Coordinate clinical or research projects with the immediate manager.
  • Perform laboratory tests and procedures in histology, medical technology, cytology, and cytogenetics, and record and interpret results.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Instruct support staff on laboratory techniques.
  • Prepare specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other materials for analysis and diagnosis using non-routine laboratory techniques.
  • Stain and mount slides; prepare solutions and media; and culture tissues.
  • Order and maintain an inventory of supplies.
  • Perform additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with EPIC and PowerPath systems.
  • Formal education in Biology, Cytogenetics, or Genetics, together with experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
