Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
  • 1 - 3 years of labor relations or human resources experience in a unionized setting.
  • Knowledge of Federal and New York State employment law and compliance practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – ability to build relationships with managers, employees, and union representatives.
  • Strong attention to detail – especially for documentation and contract interpretation.
  • Organizational and time management skills – managing multiple cases, tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient with HRIS systems, Microsoft Outlook and MS Office. (e.g., ADP, UKG, iCIMS)
  • A valid New York State Driver’s License and reliable transportation is required for regional travel within the organization’s footprint.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) for clinical and support services employees.
  • Investigate and respond to grievances, advise managers on resolution strategies, and maintain the grievance tracking system.
  • Supports labor negotiations by preparing proposals, cost analyses, comparability data, and documentation.
  • Assist in managing union requests, information sharing, and responses to unfair labor practice charges.
  • Represent the organization in Step 1–3 grievance meetings and assist in arbitration and regulatory hearing preparations.
  • Conduct supervisor training on contract interpretation, workplace investigations, and labor policies.
  • Coordinates unemployment claims and represents the company as needed for hearings.
  • Support training to assigned business units by collaborating with Learning and Development staff. Assists in conducting New Employee Orientation.
  • Partner with HR Labor Team, Legal, and department leadership to ensure consistency and compliance with labor laws (FMLA, PFL, ADA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Monitor union activity and trends to proactively address potential labor relations challenges.
  • Maintain records of labor relations activity and generate reports as needed.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote a positive and compliant labor environment.
  • Participate as an active member of the Human Resources Department in developing department goals, objectives, and systems. Escalates issues up the chain of command as necessary.
