Requirements
  • Registration with one of the two recognized medical diagnostic sonography organizations is preferred: the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred.
  • Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification is required.
  • Knowledge of database management, electronic medical record systems, medical terminology, healthcare coding systems, clinic functions, governmental regulations, compliance requirements, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and third-party payer guidelines is required.
  • The role requires the ability to operate imaging technology and machinery, interpret written and technical instructions, apply mathematical concepts, communicate technical information clearly, solve practical problems, and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, health, safety, and organizational policies.
  • An Associate degree in Ultrasound Technology is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited ultrasound technician program is required.
Responsibilities
  • Select and examine images, identify differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determine whether the examination should be extended based on preliminary findings.
  • Present sonograms and preliminary findings to physicians.
  • Complete documentation and maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Assist physicians and healthcare teams during invasive procedures.
  • Maintain and clean sonographic equipment and order supplies when needed.
  • Administer oxygen, take vital signs, and provide emergency treatments as needed.
  • Enter patient information and personal data into the computer to maintain examination records.
  • Assess patients’ physical, psychological, and educational needs and obtain an appropriate history before each examination.
  • Explain the examination process and instruct and assist patients with positioning.
  • Monitor image quality and adjust images as needed.
  • Record optimal anatomical images and transfer them to the PACS system, disc, strip printout, or film for a permanent record.
  • Provide technical information about the patient and examination to facilitate radiologist interpretation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients’ protected health information and report suspected compliance concerns or violations.
  • Complete annual compliance training and perform other position-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous Ultrasound Technologist experience is strongly preferred, with six months to one year of related experience preferred.
  • New graduates will be considered.
