About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering, or equivalent practical experience, and 3–5 years of embedded software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in C and C++, including the standard library and POSIX APIs, and the ability to navigate, read, and contribute to polyglot codebases.
  • Hands-on experience using Python and Bash for system scripting, test automation, and workflow tooling.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating environments, including RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu, or CentOS; command-line navigation; systemd; package management; kernel log analysis with dmesg; and build utilities such as CMake, Make, and GCC/Clang.
  • Working knowledge of container technologies such as Docker, Podman, and OCI standards, including experience writing multi-stage Containerfiles or Dockerfiles and debugging container networking and volume mounts.
  • Experience debugging embedded systems using tools such as GDB, strace, valgrind, and system profilers.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship and a U.S. government security clearance at the Secret level are required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and debug modular embedded C/C++ applications and background daemon services that provide core operating-system features, including vocoder, PNT/timing, serial I/O, and device proxies.
  • Build, package, test, and optimize Docker and Podman container images designed to run tactical radio components and waveforms deterministically on embedded hardware.
  • Create Python and Bash scripts to automate container orchestration, system configuration, build pipelines, integration tests, and hardware verification suites.
  • Deploy and validate software on embedded Linux platforms, primarily ARM64 and x86_64, and assist with driver-level debugging, peripheral bring-up, and bus communications.
  • Diagnose performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and interface mismatches across codebases, including modern container runtimes, legacy C/C++ libraries, and middleware.
  • Support laboratory hardware-in-the-loop testing, develop test tools, and participate in customer milestones and waveform demonstrations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on exposure to software-defined radio platforms or frameworks such as REDHAWK SDR, GNU Radio, or SCA (Software Communications Architecture).
  • Familiarity with distributed middleware such as CORBA, omniORB, DDS, or gRPC, or serialized protocols such as RS-232/422, CAN bus, MIL-STD-1553, or TCP/UDP sockets.
  • Experience configuring custom embedded Linux images using Yocto Project, Buildroot, or PetaLinux.
  • Exposure to modular defense open standards such as SOSA, CMOSS, MORA, or OpenVPX.
  • Familiarity with Go (Golang), especially for container tooling and microservices.
  • Exposure to digital signal concepts, vocoders/audio codecs, or precision timing protocols such as IEEE 1588 PTP and GPS/PPS synchronization.

What believers are saying

  • NAVSEA Seaport Enhanced gives SRC access to a $3.5 billion, 15-year Navy pipeline.
  • The August 2026 Navy contract for C4I engineering broadens work across multiple ship fleets.
  • CBP kept SRC as incumbent for $21.39 million aircraft sensor support through September 2026.

What critics are saying

  • CBP’s Aircraft Sensors Technical Support Services ends September 22, 2026, forcing recompete risk.
  • SRC’s growth depends on defense contracting cycles and incumbent renewals, not product revenue.
  • Private ownership and federal concentration make a single protest or budget cut damaging.

What makes Scientific Research Corporation unique

  • SRC won NAVSEA Seaport Enhanced across seven zones in March 2026.
  • SRC holds deep C4I, cyber, and aircraft-sensor sustainment work across Navy and CBP.
  • SRC remains embedded in follow-on federal vehicles, including OASIS UNR and Seaport.
