Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field with a manufacturing focus.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, including new product introduction or contract manufacturing experience.
  • Experience manufacturing medical disposables at scale, including injection molding, welding, films, flexures, inserts/overmolds, packaging, and labeling, and taking a product from initial concept to launch and scale.
  • Design skills including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, design validation, and inspection.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Experience in should-cost analysis and models to evaluate cost of goods.
  • Experience with Six Sigma tools and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate design intent, manufacturability, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and component and assembly specifications for transition into mass production.
  • Review design documents and specifications and work with the design team to finalize them.
  • Conduct detailed design for manufacturability reviews and critical assessments of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for components and assemblies.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for feature and manufacturing cost tradeoffs during the design phase.
  • Identify manufacturing technologies relevant to new design concepts and advise the design team on effective execution methods.
  • Identify improvements and drive actions back to design or advance processes by working with the sourcing team, suppliers, and tooling improvements.
  • Evaluate and finalize inspection and test requirements.
  • Work with the sourcing team to develop design strategies, provide cost estimates, and review quotes for cost and tooling requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive, cost-effective manufacturing strategies, including supplier selection, to support product-team sourcing decisions and cost targets.
  • Work with the design team and suppliers on design failure mode and effects analysis, process failure mode and effects analysis, and risk analysis.
  • Develop manufacturing cost models to provide advisory information to design teams.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to drive quality and cost.
  • Evaluate and finalize scaled launch approaches for design concepts, matching manufacturing methods and timing to design maturity.
  • Manage the maturity and progression of designs through full execution, including return-on-investment justifications.
  • Manage prototype manufacturing for new product development, including selecting appropriate prototype methods and executing prototype development to support new product design trials.
  • Conceive, design, develop, and implement fixtures, jigs, and automation equipment for prototype and production lines.
