About the job
- Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program.
- At least three years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting and at least two years of nurse practitioner experience.
- Maintain a valid Registered Nurse license for the state of North Carolina.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, and regulations to provide and evaluate patient care.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish and maintain a safe work environment.
- Skill in applying and modifying professional nursing principles, methods, and techniques to provide ongoing patient care.
- Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical conditions and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to work in exam rooms and medical offices, with frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other clinic conditions.
- Ability to stand and walk for extensive periods, occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work under stress in emergencies, and work irregular hours.
- Perform complete physical examinations, obtain medical histories, record findings, order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures, and interpret and integrate data to determine preliminary diagnoses and therapeutic plans.
- Administer medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines; suture minor lacerations as needed.
- Instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatments, educate patients about health and illness prevention, and recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Collaborate with physicians to manage patients’ acute and long-term medical needs, provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits, maintain and review patient records and charts, post test and examination results, and triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
- Pick up patient calls and callbacks as part of the clinical staff.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
- Participate in inpatient rounding as needed.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.
