Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field is required.
  • Two to ten years of relevant experience is required.
  • Candidates must be working toward or hold Professional Wetland Scientist certification.
  • Candidates must be familiar with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wetland delineation manual, regional supplements, and state manuals.
  • Proficiency with Global Positioning System and Geographic Information Systems field tools, such as Trimble and ArcGIS Field Maps, is preferred or advantageous.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to conduct fieldwork in varied outdoor conditions are required.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct wetland delineations and boundary flagging according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state methodologies.
  • Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation for New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Freshwater Wetlands, Coastal Area Facility Review Act, and Waterfront Development programs, as well as New York State Department of Environmental Conservation tidal wetlands and protection of waters programs.
  • Conduct field investigations, including soil sampling, hydrology assessments, and vegetation surveys.
  • Support threatened and endangered species habitat assessments.
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, and agency correspondence.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and Environmental Protection Agency, regarding permit status and inquiries.
  • Support Geographic Information Systems mapping and data management for wetland and natural-resource projects.
  • Assist senior scientists and project managers with multidisciplinary project delivery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Wetland Professional in Training status is preferred.
  • Experience with New Jersey and/or New York environmental permitting is strongly preferred.
