Requirements
  • A B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • At least 12 years of progressive engineering experience in power electronics, industrial automation, or renewable energy systems is required.
  • At least 5 years of direct engineering management experience leading cross-functional hardware and systems teams is required.
  • Proven expertise in 480V three-phase AC power distribution, AC/DC rectification, and isolating low-voltage instrumentation networks from high-voltage noise is required.
  • Demonstrated root cause analysis and system optimization experience for high-velocity design and implementation is required.
  • Strong familiarity with programmable logic controller and programmable automation controller architectures and industrial fieldbus networks is required.
  • Deep working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), UL 508A, and high-voltage safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and grounding/bonding, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end electrical architecture from the 480V grid tie-in down to the 12V/24V DC sensor networks, ensuring clean power distribution, signal integrity, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility compliance.
  • Oversee the design and specification of AC/DC rectification for the electrolyzer stack, DC/DC converters, and the integration of variable-frequency drives and silicon-controlled rectifier controllers for heavy industrial loads.
  • Act as the technical bridge between Hardware, Controls, and Software teams.
  • Define firmware requirements, state-machine logic, and communication protocols, including Modbus, CAN, and Profinet, to ensure seamless system operation.
  • Lead the design of electrical systems for hazardous environments, including Class I, Division 1/2 and ATEX environments.
  • Ensure designs adhere to the National Electrical Code, UL, and relevant functional safety standards, including IEC 61508 and ISO 13849.
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of power electronics, electrical, and controls engineers.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage external suppliers, component vendors, and contract manufacturers for critical power components, including transformers, rectifiers, and control panels.
  • Manage complex development schedules, budgets, and hardware development lifecycles from initial prototyping through commercial-scale deployment.
  • Apply best practices for schematic design, printed circuit board layout, simulation, and hardware validation, and present work for approval through design reviews.
Desired Qualifications
  • An M.S. or Ph.D. with a focus on Power Electronics, Power Systems, or Control Systems is preferred.
  • Direct industry experience in hydrogen infrastructure, electrochemistry, oil and gas, or large-scale energy storage is preferred.
  • Experience designing systems specifically for hazardous locations, including hydrogen gas environments, is preferred.
  • A strong background in thermal management of high-power electronics, including liquid and air cooling strategies, is preferred.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up and production environments, including startup or high-growth technology company experience, is preferred.
