Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • At least 15 years of experience in production, manufacturing, or operations management, including direct experience standing up or scaling low-volume production of complex hardware, is required.
  • Demonstrated experience building production processes, work instructions, and workflows from early-stage or prototype designs is required.
  • Experience hiring, training, and directly managing production technicians and/or engineers is required.
  • Experience with high-pressure gas or fluid systems or other hazardous-material hardware assembly is required.
  • Working knowledge of relevant pressure system codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3 and CGA guidelines, is required.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills are required to balance staffing, schedules, and delivery commitments.
  • Excellent communication skills are required to align engineering, production, and program stakeholders around a shared production plan.

Responsibilities
  • Stand up and manage initial and low-volume production and integration of hydrogen systems from first builds through repeatable low-rate production, while creating a path toward medium- and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Partner with fuel cell and hydrogen systems engineering and production leads to translate maturing designs into defined, documented, and repeatable build processes, work instructions, and workflows.
  • Lead and grow the production team, including hiring, training, and supervising build technicians and managing the Product Lifecycle Manager for Hydrogen and other production staff.
  • Build production infrastructure, including work cells, tooling, fixtures, and test stations, to assemble and test high-pressure hydrogen hardware and fuel cell systems safely and efficiently.
  • Own production scheduling and throughput while balancing engineering builds, test articles, and customer deliverables against staffing and equipment capacity.
  • Develop and track the roadmap for scaling from initial or low-volume production to higher-rate manufacturing, including staffing plans, equipment investments, and process automation opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in yield, cycle time, and cost through structured production data collection and root-cause problem solving.
  • Ensure production processes and facilities comply with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 2, ASME, CGA, and relevant Department of Transportation and Department of Energy regulations, and support hazard analyses such as HAZOP and FMEA.
  • Collaborate with quality, supply chain, and program management to align production plans with delivery commitments and traceability.
  • Own the production-floor safety culture, ensuring safe handling of high-pressure and flammable gases and adherence to personal protective equipment and facility safety protocols.
  • Travel occasionally, up to 15%, to supplier facilities, customer sites, testing locations, and other company locations as business needs require.
Desired Qualifications
  • A background in unmanned aerial vehicle, aerospace, or defense hardware production is preferred.
  • Knowledge of integrating hydrogen systems into unmanned aerial vehicles and other military systems is preferred.
  • Experience scaling a production organization at an early-stage or low-rate-initial-production hardware company, including standing up facilities and equipment, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 2 and hydrogen-specific safety requirements for production and laboratory environments is preferred.
  • Experience supporting HAZOP and FMEA hazard analyses for hydrogen or other hazardous-material systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with defense procurement and export-control considerations, including ITAR, EAR, and MTCR, as they relate to production planning is preferred.
  • Experience managing or coordinating with a product lifecycle management or new product introduction function is preferred.

Hydrogen-powered Z1 UAS enters U.S. Army acquisition pipeline. Heven AeroTech has secured a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) with the U.S. Army Contracting Command - Redstone Arsenal for its Z1 hydrogen-powered unmanned aircraft system and supporting hydrogen generation systems. Hydrogen-powered Z1 enters Army acquisition pipeline. Effective January 2026, the BOA establishes a streamlined contract vehicle for Army units to acquire the Z1 and associated hydrogen infrastructure through the U.S. Army UAS Project Office. The agreement leverages the Z1's status as a Blue UAS Select platform, aligning the system with Department of Defense requirements for secure, domestically aligned unmanned aircraft. "This agreement represents an important step in reducing procurement friction for Army units seeking advanced UAS capabilities," said Michael Buscher, Heven AeroTech President of U.S. Operations. "Hydrogen-powered systems offer extended endurance, logistical flexibility, and reduced dependency on traditional fuel and battery supply chains." Focus on long-endurance UAS operations. Heven AeroTech positions the Z1 as a hydrogen-powered, runway-independent drone engineered for mission-critical missions that require long endurance and flexible payload options. Hydrogen fuel supports extended flight times compared to conventional battery-powered platforms and enables rapid refueling through dedicated hydrogen generation systems in the field. The BOA is intended to support rapid deployment, technology maturation, testing and evaluation, system integration, fielding, sustainment, and modernization of Z1-based UAS capabilities across Army units.
