Requirements
  • Completion of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program or relevant work experience and certification as a Registered Medical Assistant.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized organization such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, National Healthcareer Association, National Center for Competency Testing, or American Medical Technologists, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • The ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and adherence to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with supply ordering and tracking by communicating supply needs.
  • Manage medical-assistant box work for productivity.
  • Room patients promptly; perform vital signs, family history, social history, medication consolidation, Patient Health Questionnaire screenings, barriers-today documentation, immunization consolidation, history of present illness, and review of systems.
  • Complete in-office standing orders, including A1C tests, immunizations, retinal testing, diabetes foot examinations, visual acuity tests, hearing tests, and drug screens.
  • Prepare examination rooms and patients for procedures such as minor surgery, physicals, and female examinations.
  • Review quality measures and prepare them for completion when applicable.
  • Clean examination rooms after each visit and at the end of each day.
  • Restock examination rooms weekly and as needed.
  • Call patients with laboratory and test results after provider review and written recommendations.
  • Return patient phone calls promptly, returning all calls within 72 hours and immediately escalating urgent calls to the provider.
  • Document critical laboratory values and test results received by telephone and immediately bring the results and chart to the provider.
  • Bring all PT/INR results with the chart to the provider on the day they are received.
  • Check sample medications weekly for expiration dates and complete the log.
  • Complete documentation related to childhood vaccinations, including IRIS vaccination-record forms, parental consent or refusal forms, and injection lot number, expiration date, and site logs.
  • Participate as a member of the Heritage Health Patient Centered Medical Home care team.
  • Initial, sign, and date all documentation.
  • Support other departments and Heritage Health locations as needed.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • At least one year of prior outpatient medical-assistant experience.
