4 banks and credit unions recognized for AI innovation.

4 banks and credit unions recognized for AI innovation. * Artificial Intelligence * 09.10.2026 10:22 am Glia, Banking AI platform, today announced the winners of its 2026 Catalyst Awards, which honor the most forward-thinking institutions using Banking AI to create measurable impact across growth, operational efficiency and customer experience. This year's winners demonstrate the expanding role of Banking AI - retaining millions in deposits, creating thousands of hours of workforce capacity, resolving customer needs around the clock, and equipping employees with real-time knowledge to fuel personalization and cross-selling. Together, these banks and credit unions are proof that with Banking AI, community and regional institutions can compete with megabanks and fintechs without sacrificing the relationships and experience that have always differentiated them. "As AI moves from automating routine tasks to completing complex operating procedures, these institutions are leading the way," said Dan Michaeli, co-founder and CEO of Glia. "By methodically building and scaling Banking AI into their operations, they've positioned themselves ahead of the industry - directly benefiting their employees, local communities and account holders. We are proud to partner with them and celebrate their incredible momentum." Glia's 2026 Catalyst Awards winners include: * Heartland Credit Union, recipient of the Harmonizer Award for using Banking AI to create faster, more efficient member service across voice interactions. Glia saves Heartland more than 6,000 staff hours annually - giving them the additional capacity of nearly four full-time employees - while reducing average wait time for a human operator by 40% and call abandonment by 54%. "We view Banking AI as a way to empower our members with faster, 24/7 self-service options while allowing our employees to focus on higher-value conversations that require empathy, expertise and personalized financial guidance," said Daniel Mijal, vice president of digital strategy at Heartland Credit Union. "Glia helped us achieve the scale of a megabank without losing the personal feel our members know and trust." * Live Oak Bank, recipient of the Pacesetter Award for demonstrating how AI-enabled customer engagement can translate into deeper banking relationships. With Glia's Banking AI, the technology-forward bank maintained a 93% first-contact resolution rate while more than doubling the volume of interactions handled entirely by AI. Live Oak's checking balances grew 63% year-over-year, and 25% of its customers now hold both a loan and a deposit account, up from 18% a year prior. Voice AI gives the bank the capacity to serve those relationships around the clock. "The industry still treats efficiency and experience as opposing forces, said Josh Goldstein, director, contact center at Live Oak Bank. "Live Oak's history says otherwise, and our deployment of Glia's Banking AI proves it at scale: We serve every customer like they're the only one, around the clock, while freeing our bankers to do the high-value relationship work that grows loans and deposits." * Thomaston Savings Bank, recipient of the Energizer Award for using Banking AI to give frontline employees immediate access to institutional knowledge while automating routine work. Since launching Glia, Thomaston has saved over 1,440 hours - the equivalent of adding a full-time employee to the team every week - while Glia's AI quality-assurance capabilities saved an additional estimated 222 hours. Thomaston is now expanding Glia beyond the contact center into Treasury Management and Loan Operations to fuel personalization and speed for every team across the institution. "Glia is helping us balance modern AI technology with the compassionate, personal touch that defines Thomaston," said Melissa Cipriano, Officer and Contact center manager at Thomaston Savings Bank. "Our consultants get immediate procedural answers without switching tools or interrupting peers, while AI handles routine customer inquiries. That gives our team significantly more time for in-depth troubleshooting and meaningful conversations about our clients' needs." * Alliant Credit Union, recipient of the Prodigy Award for its rapid speed of innovation, selecting Glia and launching the Banking AI platform in just eight weeks and producing measurable results within its first year. One of the largest fully digital credit unions in the U.S., Alliant used Glia and supported nearly 300,000 digital interactions while creating more than 10,500 hours of annual workforce capacity and contributing to a nearly 20% year-over-year decrease in call volume. "The results we've achieved with Glia in our first year have been remarkable - from supporting hundreds of thousands of digital interactions to creating meaningful efficiencies for our team," said Stephani Foss, chief operations officer at Alliant Credit Union. "This award reflects our ability to move quickly, embrace innovation and deliver measurable value for both our members and employees. We are grateful for our partnership with Glia, whose expertise and collaboration have helped us accelerate our digital engagement strategy and enhance the way we serve members. We are honored to be recognized by Glia and remain focused on building even better experiences in the years ahead." Together, this year's Catalyst Award winners demonstrate the transformative power of AI built specifically for community banks and credit unions. By leveraging AI designed specifically for their needs, these institutions are creating experiences and operational efficiencies that rival the nation's largest banks - all while protecting and prioritizing the relationships and customer-centricity that defines community banking. "Out of the more than 700 financial institutions we work with, these four stood out for their ability to drive significant results and achieve AI maturity that impacts both their employees and account holders," said Paul Sheets, chief customer officer at Glia. "Glia's mission is to empower community and regional institutions to thrive against megabanks and fintechs. These award winners prove that when local financial institutions put Banking AI to work, they don't just compete - they win."

Beyond automation: 5 practical strategies to build a scalable enterprise AI program.

Beyond automation: 5 practical strategies to build a scalable enterprise AI program. Published September 25, 2026, 11:17 a.m. EDT Updated September 28, 2026, 5:44 p.m. EDT Partner Insights from The greatest return on AI investments comes not from automating individual tasks, but from transforming how work flows across the enterprise. Alliant Credit Union has built an enterprise AI and automation model that modernizes end-to-end business processes, improves member experiences, and reduces manual work. Here are five strategies that Alliant Credit Union and its strategic partner, Greenlight Consulting, use to deliver great products and exceptional services to members. 1. Shift the Conversation from Technology to Business Value As a digital-first credit union with no branches, Alliant already had a strong technology team, but the credit union struggled to get business buy-in for AI and automation investments. "We talked a lot about strategy, but we weren't building out the business case or delivering business value," explains Calli Cardillo, VP, EPMO, Automation & Software Quality, Alliant Credit Union. Instead of leading with technology, Alliant took a step back to define the business problem, bring everyone together, and only then use technology to solve that problem. This patience paid off. "Devote time to understand the business, the pain points, and members' needs," advises Cardillo. "Build ROI commitments right into the business case to create clear accountability for expected outcomes." Buy-in was foundational to Alliant's success, agrees Shameiz Hemani, CEO, Greenlight Consulting. "The magic was getting buy-in on business alignment instead of just agreeing that the technology sounded like a good idea," he says. 2. Demonstrate Business Value with Quick Wins Rather than jumping into a broad technology transformation, Alliant focused on quick wins. "Nobody buys into a PowerPoint presentation on strategy," quips Cardillo. "We needed to quickly demonstrate that we could walk the talk." The credit union increased automation output by 600% by quickly automating low-hanging fruit, such as manual operations processes that caused a lot of friction and turned skeptics into champions. Cardillo knew the approach was working when the conversation with her business partners changed. Instead of handing her a backlog of technology requests, business leaders began asking how they could work together to solve problems and achieve better outcomes. 3. Move From Proving Value to Scaling It Across the Enterprise Quick wins can be an effective way for financial institutions to build enthusiasm and demonstrate the value of technology. But without a broader strategy, that momentum can quickly fade. "The hard part is keeping the energy going," says Hemani. "Programs fail because they don't address the big picture. People lose focus, and programs get off track." There's another risk: a series of quick wins can create a patchwork of disconnected solutions. Says Cardillo, "We had to be strategic about embedding quick wins into an enterprise-wide strategy, then take on more complexity and deliver better outcomes." The goal isn't simply to deliver more for the sake of delivering more. "The biggest opportunity isn't automating individual tasks but modernizing end-to-end business processes," adds Hemani. 4. Use Automation to Become More Human, Not Just Eliminate Manual Work Alliant views automation as a tool to help employees spend more time delivering an unparalleled experience to members. Take the credit union's deceased member process. Rather than searching for documents and navigating a cumbersome process, Alliant automated the process so employees have time to listen to members and be a source of comfort during emotional moments. Alliant uses automation to unleash employee talent and create better member experiences, whether through first-call resolution or anticipating member needs. "Our employees go from being doers to dreamers," says Cardillo. "Imagine that an agent hears a dog barking in the background and sends the member an Alliant-branded tennis ball. We want to make that dream a reality." That's the promise of human-centered automation, agrees Hemani. "Take the routine work off employees' plates so they can focus on the moments that build relationships," he says. 5. Apply the Right Tool to Deliver Business Value Without Burdening the Budget With so much attention on agentic AI, it's easy to assume that technology is the answer to every problem. Alliant takes a more pragmatic approach: use the right tool for the job. For highly structured, rules-based, and repeatable processes, traditional automation such as RPA may be the better choice. More complex processes that require decision-making, context, or adaptability may call for AI. "I intentionally try not to buy into the hype," says Cardillo. That discipline also helps Alliant avoid sticker shock. Not every problem requires the most advanced technology. A simple Python script or even an Excel spreadsheet can sometimes solve the problem faster and at a fraction of the cost of deploying agentic AI. From Quick Wins to Lasting Transformation Successful AI and automation programs aren't built by chasing the latest technology. They're built by bringing technology and business leaders together and connecting technology investments to measurable business value that creates better experiences for employees and members. About Greenlight Greenlight Consulting is an AI and automation consulting firm helping organizations turn emerging technology into measurable business value. With deep expertise in financial services, Consumer Attorneys PLC. help banks, credit unions and other financial institutions solve complex operational challenges and modernize how work gets done. From strategy through delivery and scale, Greenlight combines expertise across AI, automation, process orchestration, testing and application development to build practical solutions that improve efficiency, create better experiences and deliver lasting impact.

Bed Bath & Beyond launches homeownership program with Alliant.

Bed Bath & Beyond launches homeownership program with Alliant. Bed Bath & Beyond is continuing its pivot beyond the home decor world via a new partnership with Alliant Credit Union. The companies on Monday (Sept. 21) announced the Journey Home program, designed to help people "prepare financially, purchase a home, and manage the transition into homeownership," as Alliant said in a news release. According to the release, the program addresses two stages of homeownership. For people still getting ready to buy, there is Journey Home Savings, designed to help consumers build funds for a down payment. For those ready to buy, Journey Home connects things like home search, real estate professionals, Alliant financing, closing support and resources for moving. The launch of Journey Home follows the companies' announcement last week of their plans to establish the "Beyond Credit Union, powered by Alliant and expected to launch in the first quarter of next year. This is part of an ongoing transformation for Bed Bath & Beyond, which recently announced plans to adopt a new "corporate identity," Neighborhood Intelligence. Earlier this year, the company reached an agreement to acquire Tokens.com with the goal of establishing what it called a unified investment platform bridging traditional real estate finance with blockchain-based tokenization. Bed Bath & Beyond Executive Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis described the deal as part of a long-term vision to create "responsible, compliant liquidity pathways" for homeowners. It is also in keeping with the company's broader goal of developing an "integrated home ecosystem" where commerce, insurance and financial services come together. In other credit union news, recent PYMNTS Intelligence/Velera research found that there is a growing opportunity for credit unions (CUs) and FinTechs to work together, though interest alone will not be enough to produce new products for members. As noted in "FinTechs Want In: How Credit Unions Can Turn Partnerships Into Growth," CUs serve nearly 146 million members throughout the U.S., a level of research offering FinTechs access to a large and established market. For their part, credit unions gain access to technology that can help them improve service, add products and respond to the changing needs of their members. "Both sides see the potential," PYMNTS wrote earlier this month. "The challenge is getting from interest to launch. FinTechs say long approval cycles and older systems can slow progress. Credit unions report internal barriers that make it harder to bring new ideas to market."

Alliant Credit Union and Neighborhood Intelligence launch Alliant Journey Home.

Alliant Credit Union and Neighborhood Intelligence launch Alliant Journey Home. 09/21/2026. Developed in collaboration with the Bed Bath & Beyond brand, the savings and homebuying program will be offered through Alliant, Neighborhood Intelligence, and other Alliant partnerships CHICAGO and NASHVILLE, Tenn. - September 21, 2026 - Alliant Credit Union, one of the nation's largest credit unions, and Neighborhood Intelligence (NASDAQ: NXH) today announced the launch of Journey Home, a savings and homebuying program developed by Alliant in collaboration with Neighborhood Intelligence through its Bed Bath & Beyond brand. Journey Home is designed to help consumers prepare financially, purchase a home, and manage the transition into homeownership. Journey Home is designed for broad distribution. It will be offered through Alliant, across Neighborhood Intelligence's home ecosystem, and through other current and future partnerships established by Alliant. Its reach will extend beyond any single company, brand, or customer base. How Journey Home Works Journey Home addresses two distinct stages of homeownership. For consumers still preparing to buy, Journey Home Savings provides a structured way to build funds for a down payment while earning a savings rate 16x the national average* and working toward an additional homeownership reward. For consumers ready to buy, Journey Home connects home search, real estate professionals, Alliant financing, closing support, moving resources, home-related services, rewards, and savings. Journey Home Savings rewards consistent saving. Members who save for at least 18 months and use those funds to purchase a home financed through Alliant Credit Union can receive a match equal to the cumulative interest earned in the account, up to $1,500. The match applies to the interest earned, not the amount deposited, effectively doubling the interest up to the program's cap. Together, the savings and ready-to-buy experiences are designed to create a continuous path from aspiration to ownership. A consumer can begin by learning about the process and building a down payment, then use Journey Home to search, finance, close, move, and access services and savings after receiving the keys. "Journey Home Savings is designed to reward the work that happens before a home purchase," said Mike Dobbins, President and CEO of Alliant Credit Union. "Members can earn a high savings rate, establish the discipline of contributing consistently, and qualify for an additional reward when they finance their home through Alliant. The program turns preparation into tangible financial value." "Buying my first home was a dream come true, and every American should have the opportunity to experience that moment. There is nothing like the first night in a home of one's own," said Marcus Lemonis, Executive Chairman and CEO of Neighborhood Intelligence. "Homeownership is one of the foundations of the American Dream, and reaching it requires education, discipline and saving. Our companies want to democratize the entire journey - from preparing to buy through the first night at home and every life event that follows. Understanding the process, doing the work and staying committed represent the kind of meritocracy we want to reward." The Journey Home launch follows the companies' September 15 announcement of a long-term strategic partnership to develop Beyond Credit Union, powered by Alliant. The full credit union is expected to launch in Q1 2027, with additional programs and initiatives to be introduced before then. Journey Home, developed in collaboration with Bed Bath & Beyond, will be featured within the Beyond Credit Union ecosystem while also intended for broader distribution by Alliant. Within Neighborhood Intelligence, Journey Home will be available across a portfolio led by Bed Bath & Beyond and including The Container Store, Overstock, buybuy BABY and Kirkland's, as well as the company's expanding Home Services and Home Ownership businesses. *APY= Annual Percentage Yield.
