Requirements
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours of up to 12 hours on some days.
  • Ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Ability to lift cases of food products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of the efficient and safe use of food service equipment such as ovens, choppers, slicers, and fryers.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds when storing, stocking, and rotating food products.
  • Knowledge of food production methods and procedures, including sanitation.
  • Knowledge of equipment cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret recipe information and production sheets from a menu management system.
  • Knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the use of materials, methods, and equipment used in large-scale cooking.
  • Thorough knowledge of food products and quality standards for foods.
  • Ability to independently coordinate and guide large-scale food preparation activities.
  • Considerable knowledge of sanitation and health precautions in food preparation and service.
  • Eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of appointment.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe certification within three months of hire and recertify within three months of expiration.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Responsibilities
  • Greet customers, answer questions, and provide information regarding food preparation and associated activities.
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas.
  • Perform routine and non-routine food preparation activities, including cook-to-order and specialty foods.
  • Adhere to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Train and guide student workers.
  • Lead the activity of 1-5 employees on any one shift.
  • Produce quality, wholesome, and properly prepared foods according to standardized menus and recipes.
  • Maintain efficient and courteous service, proper sanitation procedures, and proper use and care of equipment across University Dining facilities.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with all staff members and the larger university community.
  • Ability to communicate courteously with vendors, supervisors, customers, and co-workers while following customer service standards, including under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to perform work within time constraints while meeting quality standards, schedules, and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of ServSafe.
