About the job
- At least 3 years of experience in the collections field, preferably in the subprime consumer lending industry.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local collections regulations.
- Ability to interact with customers in a professional, tactful, and sensitive manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently and as part of a team.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bilingual English and Spanish proficiency.
- Follow and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
- Negotiate payment arrangements with borrowers to obtain payment commitments or account reinstatements, suggest ways to meet obligations, propose alternative payment methods, and establish payment procedures.
- Review accounts for special assistance, including loan modifications and extensions, and gather the information and documents needed to provide assistance.
- Initiate and review repossession efforts to recover collateral.
- Document account information and collection activities accurately and professionally.
- Conduct investigative activities to determine customer whereabouts through database searches and system records, including skip-tracing.
- Make outbound calls and receive inbound calls through an auto-dialing or manual telephone system.
- Maintain satisfactory work efforts on an assigned queue and meet or exceed daily and monthly goals.
- Perform other assigned duties.
