Boston Scientific slashes 2026 guidance third time.

Boston Scientific slashes 2026 guidance third time. By Trisna Anggraini October 29, 2026 Boston Scientific reported a challenging third quarter, marked by a cyberattack and ongoing struggles in key product lines, prompting the company to slash its 2026 earnings and sales guidance for the third consecutive time. The medical device company now projects full-year revenue growth of 4.25%, down from a previous range of 5.5% to 6.5%. Adjusted earnings per share guidance was cut to $3.16 to $3.18 from $3.28 to $3.32, following an earlier February forecast of $3.43 to $3.49. The new guidance, released along with third-quarter results, is a far cry from what was projected at the beginning of the year, when Boston Scientific outlined 2026 sales growth expectations of 10.5% to 11.5%. The third-quarter results included a roughly $150 million revenue hit from a cyberattack that disrupted ordering, manufacturing, and shipping operations. This markedly lower impact compared with the $755 million in revenue losses attributed to a similar cyberattack during the year-ago period, showing the company's ongoing vulnerability to operational disruptions. Overall, Boston Scientific reported $5.14 billion in revenue, representing 1.5% growth compared to the prior year. CEO Mike Mahoney attributed the guidance reductions to persistent challenges in the Watchman and electrophysiology divisions, which historically drove significant growth. Watchman sales fell 6% year-over-year, while electrophysiology declined 5%, contrasting with 30% growth in Watchman sales and triple-digit gains in electrophysiology during 2025. Mahoney highlighted that the slowdown in the left atrial appendage closure market, which includes Watchman, stems from changes in patient identification and referral patterns, while electrophysiology's decline reflects competitive pressures in pulsed field ablation technology. The company also forecast a 3% to 1% sales decline in the fourth quarter and acknowledged that it will be challenged to grow sales and adjusted EPS next year. Boston Scientific's stock dropped nearly 7% to $42.02 following the announcement. The company also delayed its $14.5 billion acquisition of Penumbra, now expecting completion in early 2027 rather than 2026 due to the regulatory process taking a bit of time. "The regulatory process has taken a bit of time," Mahoney said. "We're still very confident in closing the transaction, but based on some of the discussions with the regulatory authorities, we anticipate the early first quarter close."

Stock market today, Oct. 28: Boston Scientific slips 6% after cutting Q4 sales and full-year EPS guidance on cyberattack impact. Today, Oct. 28, 2026, the medical device maker slashed profit expectations after an August cyberattack continued disrupting operations. Investors are focused on the cyberattack's lingering disruption and the company's lower fourth-quarter and full-year guidance. Trading volume reached 66.8M shares, coming in about 234% above its three-month average of 20.0M shares. How the markets moved today. S&P 500 (^GSPC +0.28%) closed at 7,744, up 0.28%, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC +0.27%) finished at 26,550, up 0.27%. In the medical devices sector, Medtronic (MDT +0.88%) closed at $94.82, up 0.93%, and Abbott Laboratories (ABT -0.45%) closed at $102.67, down 0.42%, after fresh outlook pressure kept the group in focus. What this means for investors. Boston Scientific guided for 3% to 5% sales growth and $0.80 to $0.82 in adjusted EPS for Q3, and came up shy of both figures today, delivering a 1.5% sales increase and $0.73 in adjusted EPS. Management blamed an eight-day disruption from a cyberattack as the primary culprit, estimating it cost the company 300 basis points in sales growth and $0.07 in adjusted EPS. Making matters worse, the company doesn't believe an immediate turnaround is in sight, guiding for 3.75% sales growth in 2026; rather, a slow rebuilding is more likely over the next year or two. CEO Mahoney explained, "We believe that 2027 will be the trough in the cycle and we have several investments and new innovations coming over the course of the next 3 years." That said, BSX shares now trade at just 13 times forward earnings, so it wouldn't take massive growth to potentially spark such a turnaround - especially considering the company may have upside incoming from its pending acquisition of Penumbra, if it can integrate the deal successfully. I'm keeping an eye on Boston Scientific from a distance, but I'd only want to invest once I start to see signs of progress. Is Boston Scientific a smart long-term play? Boston Scientific hit by cyber outage and cyclical slump, plans $500M savings as 2027 seen as trough

Boston Scientific said a cyber security incident hurt its third-quarter results, causing a two-week outage with eight business days of manufacturing and shipping disruption. The attack cut sales growth by about 300 basis points and earnings per share by $0.07, and lost revenue came to $150 million. The company expects 2027 to be the low point of its cycle, with recovery in 2028. Weakness in its electrophysiology and WATCHMAN franchises, and pricing pressure in China, weigh on growth. A restructuring programme should save more than $500 million over three years. It also booked an $80 million charge, mostly for product liability cases. The Penumbra acquisition is now expected to close in early 2027 because of regulatory timelines.

Management said 2027 revenue and EPS growth will be challenging as EP and WATCHMAN face market-share and competitive pressures, while China pricing headwinds intensify. * WATCHMAN sales declined 6% and EP sales declined 5% in Q3, with further EP share erosion expected until new products launch. The company also cited weaker urology performance, China-related pricing pressure, supply constraints, and delays affecting parts of its product pipeline. * Management expects a return to stronger performance in 2028, supported by launches including FARAWAVE Ultra, 2D ICE, CRM's Denali platform, new IVL and imaging technologies, and a potential Penumbra contribution. The company identified approximately $25 billion of new market opportunities by 2030. * A company-wide restructuring program is expected to generate more than $500 million in savings over three years, with over half anticipated by the end of 2027. Here are the key news stories impacting Boston Scientific this week: * Boston Scientific reported third-quarter revenue of $5.138 billion, up 1.5% year over year and ahead of analysts' expectations of approximately $5.06 billion. Adjusted EPS of $0.73 also narrowly exceeded the $0.72 consensus estimate. * The company highlighted operational progress, including enrollment in the Elite AF clinical trial and FDA 510(k) clearances for StoneSmart technologies and an expanded SEISMIQ catheter offering. Cardiovascular sales rose 1.9% on a reported basis, while Latin American sales increased 16%. * Management's results extended Boston Scientific's streak of quarterly earnings beats, but the underlying growth rate remains modest. Revenue increased from $5.065 billion a year earlier, while regional performance was uneven, including a 0.6% decline in Asia-Pacific sales. * Boston Scientific again lowered its fiscal 2026 outlook, now targeting approximately 4.25% reported net-sales growth. Management expects fourth-quarter reported and organic sales to decline 1% to 3%, signaling a difficult finish to the year. * The cybersecurity incident has disrupted business operations and weighed on the company's forecast. Investors appear to be treating the reduced guidance as more important than the quarterly beat, raising concerns about near-term execution and the duration of the incident's financial impact. * Profitability also weakened year over year: GAAP EPS fell to $0.40 from $0.51, while adjusted EPS declined from $0.75 to $0.73. The combination of lower earnings, cybersecurity-related uncertainty and another outlook reduction explains the negative investor reaction. Insider buying and selling.
