About the company

Pinterest is a visual discovery and bookmarking platform where users save ideas as pins on themed boards. People browse and search for ideas across topics like recipes, home decor, and fashion, then save or share pins to organize their interests. The product works through a feed and search results that show relevant pins, with tools for creating, organizing, and sharing boards. It earns revenue mainly from advertising—promoted pins shown in feeds and search results—and affiliate marketing, earning commissions when traffic leads to retailers. The platform differentiates itself with its visual discovery engine, focus on saving and organizing inspiration, and its advertising and affiliate ecosystem that targets users based on their interests. Pinterest’s goal is to help people discover ideas they love and turn that inspiration into action by connecting users with content creators and businesses.

Iced out: What the coffee debate means for listing appointments.

Iced out: What the coffee debate means for listing appointments. A recruiter's viral TikTok about iced coffee at job interviews has split viewers over unwritten rules September 28, 2026 TL;DR (too long, didn't read). * Small details shape first impressions at interviews and listing appointments alike. * Undisclosed TikTok ads pay well, but agents face FTC and RESPA risk. * Pinterest's AI restyle tool reaches buyers, and altered images need a label. The iced coffee debate, stealth ads and AI restyling each carry a lesson in how audiences read what they see, and the agents who benefit are the ones who take time to understand the context before they post. Every agent has walked into a listing appointment and wondered how the seller would read them, from the car parked in the driveway to the drink in their hand. A recruiter's TikTok video about iced coffee at job interviews put that question in front of millions of viewers this month, and the split in the comments shows how quickly people form a judgment before the conversation gets going. Iced out of the interview. A recruiter's TikTok video has job seekers debating whether an iced coffee belongs in a job interview. In the video, recruiter Caitlin Wehniainen said candidates who show up with a drink in hand make the interview look like one more errand on their to-do list. The comments split from there, with some viewers calling the critique petty and others saying job seekers have to play by unwritten rules if they want the offer. Agents will recognize the setup. A listing appointment is a job interview, and in a slower housing market, sellers can meet with several agents before they sign. The agent who loses the listing may never hear why, which leaves them in the same spot as the job seekers second-guessing every choice they made in the room. Brokerages sit on the other side of the table. Team leaders recruiting agents or hiring transaction coordinators set the standards in those interviews, and candidates talk about how they were treated. Wehniainen addressed that gap in a follow-up LinkedIn post. "Nobody is actually arguing about coffee," she wrote, adding that candidates and employers each hear a different message in the same advice. Protip: Wehniainen's video spread because she took a clear position on a small, relatable question. Agents can use the same format with a short video on an etiquette question buyers and sellers disagree about, such as whether shoes come off at showings or whether buyers should attend the inspection. End with a question that asks viewers where they stand. Pinterest adds ads and AI restyling to visual search. Pinterest announced new ad placements and an AI design tool at its annual Pinterest Presents event. Restyle lets users reimagine a space and compare home décor options across different styles and products, and it will launch in the U.S. and Canada in the coming weeks. Visual search ads will place paid promotions inside image-based search results, where the company said it handles more than 80 billion searches a month. A buyer hesitating over a dated kitchen or a seller preparing a home for market could use restyle to test ideas before spending money. Any AI-altered image carries the same caution that applies to virtual staging, since many MLSs require digitally altered listing photos to be labeled, and the National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics requires agents to present a true picture in their advertising. What this means for real estate professionals. Pinterest search works on images, and the platform is adding more ways to act on what users find. Agents who pin listing photos, neighborhood guides and market content with clear descriptions and links back to their site put that content in the path of users searching for homes and design ideas. The restyle tool also gives agents a conversation starter with clients who struggle to see past a home's current finishes. TikTok's stealth ad side hustle has a disclosure problem. Everyday TikTok users are earning up to $6,000 a month posting promotional videos from secondary accounts without labeling them as ads. The videos borrow the look of personal content, such as a screenshot of a breakup text, with the product folded into the story. Advertising attorneys say paid content still falls under Federal Trade Commission disclosure rules, though one California lawyer told The Wall Street Journal that enforcement on social media doesn't appear to be an FTC priority. Viewers are filling part of that gap by calling out posts that look like hidden ads. For agents looking for income between closings, user-generated content work is an appealing side hustle, and agents who film themselves for their business have the skills brands want. The risk follows them to a secondary account. An agent's face and voice are the same on both, and a client who recognizes them in an undisclosed ad may question the recommendations they make on their main account. Agents who promote lenders, title companies or other vendors for payment or referral business also face FTC endorsement rules and Section 8 of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, which prohibits giving or accepting anything of value for settlement service referrals. The storytelling structure behind these videos is worth studying. A listing tour framed around a buyer's specific problem uses the same hook without hiding anything. Any post tied to compensation needs a label in the video and the caption through TikTok's content disclosure setting or Instagram's paid partnership tag. FTC guidance calls for the disclosure to appear with the content itself, so a note in your bio won't cover individual posts. Each week on Trending, Inman's Jessi Healey dives into what's buzzing in social media and why it matters for real estate professionals. From viral trends to platform changes, she'll break it all down so you know what's worth your time - and what's not.

Pinterest stock buybacks and analyst ratings: how PINS ranks among top broker Picks.

Pinterest stock buybacks and analyst ratings: how PINS ranks among top broker Picks. By Joel Kornblau, Editor, The Online Investor, Wednesday, September 23, 2026, 2:19 PM ET Pinterest Inc (PINS) ranks No. 41 among stocks identified by The Online Investor as combining strong stock buyback activity with favorable analyst sentiment. In this screen, companies qualify by repurchasing at least 5% of outstanding shares over the trailing twelve months, after which analyst recommendations from major brokerage firms are aggregated and ranked by average rating. The pairing of aggressive share repurchases and positive analyst coverage can be meaningful. A buyback reduces the number of shares outstanding, which can lift per-share metrics such as earnings per share and free cash flow per share if the underlying business remains stable or improves. When that capital allocation decision coincides with constructive analyst views, investors often read it as a signal that both management and Wall Street see value in the stock, although the strength of that signal depends heavily on valuation, balance sheet capacity, and the durability of the company's operating outlook. Why buyback activity matters. Share repurchases can affect valuation and capital allocation analysis in several ways: * Higher per-share results: With fewer shares outstanding, earnings and cash flow are divided across a smaller base. * Management signaling: Repurchases may indicate that management believes the stock is undervalued relative to long-term prospects. * Flexible capital return: Unlike dividends, buybacks can be increased, paused, or resumed depending on market conditions and cash needs. * Execution risk: Buybacks create value primarily when shares are repurchased at attractive prices and without weakening the balance sheet. That last point is critical. Not all repurchase activity is equally constructive. A large buyback funded by robust free cash flow is generally more compelling than one financed by incremental leverage or executed at a stretched valuation. In other words, the existence of a buyback matters, but the quality of the buyback matters more. What PINS ranking No. 41 suggests. Pinterest's position on this list indicates that it stands out within a narrower subset of companies already screened for meaningful repurchase activity. The ranking does not simply reflect buybacks in isolation; it also captures the direction of analyst opinion. That combination suggests Pinterest is viewed favorably not only for returning capital through share repurchases, but also for its broader equity story. For Pinterest, the key analytical question is whether buybacks are reinforcing an already improving operating profile or merely offsetting slower growth. In evaluating that, investors typically focus on user engagement trends, advertising demand, monetization progress, margin trajectory, and the company's ability to convert revenue growth into sustainable cash generation. How analysts typically interpret share repurchases. Analysts covering companies with active repurchase programs generally incorporate at least three effects into their models: * Reduced share count: This can mechanically improve earnings per share even if net income growth is modest. * Capital allocation discipline: Repurchases can indicate confidence that reinvestment needs are being met and excess capital is available. * Valuation support: Persistent buyback activity can provide demand for shares and sometimes help moderate dilution from stock-based compensation. For companies in digital advertising and internet platforms, this analysis can be especially relevant because stock-based compensation can be material. In those cases, investors often distinguish between buybacks that merely offset dilution and buybacks that produce a meaningful net reduction in share count. Pinterest Relative to GOOG and META. PINS operates in the Entertainment sector, alongside large platform companies such as Alphabet Inc (GOOG) and Meta Platforms Inc (META). On the day referenced here, GOOG was down about 3.7%, while META was up about 1.8%. By comparison, PINS was trading down about 0.9% midday Wednesday. Short-term price moves offer limited insight on their own, but relative performance can still be useful when viewed in context. Alphabet and Meta are far larger businesses with broader advertising ecosystems and different capital allocation profiles. Pinterest, by contrast, is often evaluated more directly on its niche positioning in visual discovery, its monetization runway, and its ability to deepen advertiser engagement while scaling profitability. Below is a three-month price history chart comparing the stock performance of PINS, GOOG, and META. Key takeaway. Pinterest's appearance near the top of a buyback-focused analyst ranking highlights a notable combination: substantial share repurchases and broadly favorable brokerage sentiment. That can strengthen the investment case when repurchases are backed by healthy cash generation and improving fundamentals. The more important issue, however, is whether Pinterest can translate that capital allocation support into sustained growth in revenue, margins, and per-share value over time. See whether the same theme is showing up elsewhere by reviewing Current Top Analyst Picks of the S&P 500. How to read broker darling screens and peer comparison. Broker darling stories highlight stocks that analysts currently favor within a large-cap or dividend-oriented screen. Peer comparison helps show whether yield, valuation, analyst support, or trading activity stands out within a relevant group. The signal is most useful when analyst support is reviewed with valuation, earnings expectations, dividend quality, and business fundamentals. Investors should treat the peer comparison angle as context rather than a standalone signal.

Pinterest and Shopee link up to bring creator-led shopping to Indonesia.

Pinterest and Shopee link up to bring creator-led shopping to Indonesia. The partnership lets Shopee Affiliate creators tag products on Pinterest, connecting visual discovery with marketplace purchases in Indonesia and Brazil 23 Sep, 2026 Pinterest and Shopee are linking their creator and shopping ecosystems in Indonesia and Brazil. The partnership shows how e-commerce platforms are trying to get closer to the moment consumers first decide what they want to buy. Under the new affiliate arrangement, eligible Shopee Affiliate creators can connect their Shopee accounts to Pinterest and recommend Shopee products through Pins and videos. When Pinterest users buy eligible products on Shopee through those recommendations, creators earn commissions, subject to programme terms. For Pinterest, the deal marks its entry into affiliate commerce in Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest digital economy and one of the region's most fiercely contested e-commerce markets. For Shopee, it adds another channel for its affiliate network beyond its own app and the usual social platforms, placing products inside Pinterest's visual discovery environment. The partnership also extends Pinterest's creator-commerce push in Brazil, where Shopee has grown into a major e-commerce player. The two markets are far apart, but they share an important trait: large, young, mobile-first consumer bases that increasingly discover products through creators before buying them on marketplaces. From search intent to shopping cart. Pinterest has long positioned itself less as a social network and more as a visual search engine, where users save ideas around fashion, beauty, home design, weddings, food and lifestyle. The company says people often arrive with open-ended intent: they may not know the exact product they want, but they are actively exploring possibilities. That behaviour is increasingly valuable to e-commerce companies. Online shopping in Southeast Asia has matured beyond price comparisons and flash sales. Marketplaces now compete for attention earlier in the consumer journey, before shoppers search for a product by name or open an app with a clear purchase in mind. "Commerce does not begin only at the point of purchase. It starts when people discover an idea, explore their options, and decide what fits their needs," said Peggy Zhu, Executive Director, Brand and Growth Marketing at Shopee. She described creator commerce as part of a broader journey connecting creators, businesses and shoppers through content and technology. Under the partnership, eligible Shopee Affiliate creators can discover Shopee products within Pinterest, tag multiple products in a single Pin or video, and have relevant affiliate links applied automatically to eligible products. A creator could, for example, post a room makeover and tag the lamp, storage boxes and wall decor, or share a makeup routine with separate links to each product. Multi-product tagging matters because much of Pinterest's content is built around complete ideas rather than single items. A user searching for "small bedroom ideas" or "office outfit inspiration" may be looking for a full look or setup. By making those items shoppable through Shopee, the companies are trying to shorten the path from inspiration to transaction. Why Indonesia matters. Indonesia is a logical test bed. It is the region's largest e-commerce market and a key battleground for Shopee, TikTok Shop, Tokopedia and Lazada, a handful of players that together dominate regional e-commerce. Affiliate commerce has become a major front in that competition, with creators helping marketplaces reach consumers through product reviews, livestreams, short videos and curated lists. Shopee's Affiliate Program already gives creators a way to earn from recommendations. Pinterest adds a different discovery layer, one centred less on entertainment feeds and more on intent-based search and saved ideas. That distinction could be useful in categories such as fashion, beauty, and home and living, where consumers often browse repeatedly before buying. Pinterest said Gen Z now accounts for more than 50 per cent of its global user base, making it the platform's largest and fastest-growing audience. Internal company data also shows rising Gen Z interest in Indonesia and Brazil across fashion and beauty. In Indonesia, searches for "produk kecantikan", or beauty products, rose 83 per cent year on year between January and June 2026, in line with the broader surge in beauty sales across the country's e-commerce platforms. Ayumi Nakajima, Senior Director of Content Partnerships for APAC at Pinterest, said users come to the platform with intent, whether they are updating a wardrobe, refreshing a home or looking for a new beauty product. "Creators help guide those decisions through recommendations people trust," she said. For Indonesian creators, the appeal is partly practical. Nayla Zukhrufa, a home and living creator and Shopee Affiliate since early 2022, said Pinterest users often arrive looking for "practical solutions", not just passive inspiration. Connecting Shopee with Pinterest, she said, links discovery with a buying option and opens another monetisation route for creators. Creator commerce gets more crowded. The deal comes as Southeast Asia's creator-commerce market grows more fragmented and competitive. TikTok Shop has made short video and livestream commerce mainstream in markets such as Indonesia, while Tokopedia, Lazada and Instagram continue to court merchants and creators. YouTube has been expanding shopping features globally, and Amazon's affiliate model remains a reference point for creator monetisation, even though Amazon is far less dominant in most of Southeast Asia than in the US. Pinterest is not trying to replicate the high-speed, entertainment-led shopping loop that TikTok popularised. Its pitch is closer to guided discovery: users search, save, compare and return to ideas over time. That may make the Shopee integration more relevant in categories where aesthetics, planning and curation shape buying decisions. In Brazil, Shopee faces a different competitive map, including Mercado Livre, Amazon, Shein and local retailers. Pinterest has a strong lifestyle and visual-planning use case there, while Shopee has invested heavily in affordability and seller growth. The partnership gives both companies a way to compete for product discovery without relying only on paid ads or in-app promotions. A small feature with bigger implications. The mechanics are straightforward, but the direction is notable. Marketplaces no longer want to wait for shoppers to arrive with intent; they want to shape that intent earlier. Content and discovery platforms, meanwhile, are under pressure to prove that creator engagement translates into measurable commerce. That convergence matters particularly in Southeast Asia, where small sellers and homegrown brands often depend on creators to stand out in crowded marketplaces. If affiliate links can be embedded more naturally into discovery content, creators could become a stronger bridge between merchants and consumers. Still, execution will decide whether the model works. Users will tolerate shoppable content only if recommendations feel useful, relevant and transparent, and reach alone does not buy that trust. Creators will need enough product choice and reliable tracking to make the effort worthwhile. Shopee and Pinterest will also have to make sure the journey from visual browsing to checkout does not feel clunky. For now, the partnership is another sign that the region's e-commerce race is shifting from transactions alone to influence, discovery and trust. In markets like Indonesia, where young consumers already move fluidly between social platforms, creator content and marketplaces, the next purchase may begin long before a shopper opens a shopping app. Editor, e27

Pinterest's doubling down on Generative AI threatens to alienate tabletop artists and publishers.

Pinterest's doubling down on Generative AI threatens to alienate tabletop artists and publishers. Support its quest: Links may earn commission Pinterest has updated its global Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to give itself explicit permission to use uploaded Pins, board collections, and user descriptions to train proprietary machine learning and generative AI models. The revised terms apply retrospectively across all historical uploads, regardless of when an image was posted, creating an immediate copyright clash with tabletop roleplaying game publishers and independent illustrators who reject generative tooling. While Pinterest has introduced a user-facing toggle to opt out of training its Canvas generative engine, the mechanism offers weak protection. The platform's baseline licence treats uploads as perpetual and sublicensable, meaning human-created artwork remains vulnerable to automated ingestion the moment another account saves or re-pins it. The tabletop industry's zero-tolerance stance on machine learning. Many in the tabletop roleplaying game sector maintain an exceptionally strict boundary against synthetic media. Players and indie studios actively boycott products featuring automated writing or generative imagery, treating human creative labour as non-negotiable. This sensitivity is so pronounced that even automated layout utility tools cause uproar. Earlier this year, Adobe InDesign rolled out an unannounced tool that quietly inserted automated alt text into document assets. When fans spotted synthetic image descriptions inside Chaosium's Time Without Tide quickstart on BackerKit and Evil Hat Productions' digital edition of Umdaar: Rebel Broadcast Edition, both publishers faced immediate scrutiny. Both studios moved quickly to strip out the tool's output and reassure backers of their stance. As Evil Hat's Fred Hicks and Chaosium's Brian Holland made clear, the community expects zero machine-learning involvement in roleplaying games - even down to accessibility labels. Given this environment, indie illustrators, cartographers, and writers will not tolerate having their work fed into image generation engines. Many rely on Pinterest as an informal visual portfolio, only to discover that years of back-catalogue illustrations have been converted into training data by default. Why the Canvas opt-out fails creators. Pinterest added an opt-out control located under Settings > Privacy and data titled "Use your data to train Pinterest Canvas". However, platform architecture severely undermines this protection: * The Re-Pin Problem: If you upload an original battlemap or character portrait and toggle the setting off, Pinterest will not train directly from your specific account. The moment another user saves that Pin to their public board, their account settings govern the image. If they have not toggled off the Canvas setting, the asset enters the training pipeline anyway. * Persistent Sublicensing: Pinterest's Terms of Service demand a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable licence to host and distribute content. Deleting your original Pin or closing your account does not remove copies that other users have saved to their boards. * Retrospective Default: Accounts default to opted-in. Millions of historical TTRPG sketches and commissions uploaded over the past decade are already exposed unless creators manually log in to adjust their preferences. How website owners and publishers can disable pinterest. Publishers, artists, and independent blogs can block Pinterest's automated ingestion tools at the domain level. Adding code directly to your site prevents browser extensions, user bookmarklets, and native crawler scrapers from harvesting original art. The nopin meta tag actively disables the Pinterest save extension, while adding a custom description attribute forces a pop-up alert explaining why pinning is barred when someone tries to grab the image. Pairing this with a Disallow rule in robots.txt prevents Pinterestbot from scraping Open Graph preview images (og:image) directly from article URLs. While this does not stop someone from manually saving an image to their hard drive and uploading it as a raw file, it closes off browser-level pinning and automated syndication. A risky move for visual discovery. Pinterest built its market identity as a digital haven for visual curation, human discovery, and mood-boarding. Unlike algorithmic video feeds, its core utility relied on real people categorising interior ideas, craft projects, miniature paint schemes, and hand-drawn maps. Transforming that human library into a training engine threatens the platform's foundational value. Flooding search results with unlabelled synthetic imagery alienates the artists whose work populated the ecosystem in the first place. For indie RPG creators, the update makes Pinterest look less like an inspirational discovery tool and more like an extraction pipeline. Studios and freelancers will now have to weigh whether occasional referral traffic justifies surrendering their intellectual property to a model. Quick Links.
