What believers are saying

  • EMA, UK, and Swiss decisions expected in 2H2026 can unlock Germany and UK launches.
  • June 2026 cash of $678.3 million funds PREVAIL, RUBENS, and commercialization through 2027.
  • BROADWAY and BROOKLYN showed LDL-C lowering with placebo-like tolerability, supporting physician adoption.

What critics are saying

  • PREVAIL interim data in 1Q2027 decides the entire platform; failure crushes NewAmsterdam.
  • Merck's July 2026 oral PCSK9 approval steals cardiology mindshare before Menarini launches.
  • COO Douglas Kling resigned effective August 14, 2026, signaling execution strain before launches.

What makes NewAmsterdam Pharma unique

  • Obicetrapib is the only late-stage oral CETP inhibitor; Europe approved it in July 2026.
  • NewAmsterdam pairs monotherapy and ezetimibe FDC across HeFH, ASCVD, and PREVAIL programs.
  • Menarini commercialization in Europe gives NewAmsterdam royalties and milestones without building a salesforce.

European Commission approves Menarini and NewAmsterdam's obicetrapib for cholesterol treatment

The European Commission has granted marketing authorisation for Ubeslo (obicetrapib monotherapy) and Evlarco (obicetrapib plus ezetimibe fixed-dose combination), marking the first global regulatory approval of obicetrapib. The approval, announced by NewAmsterdam Pharma and Menarini Group, covers treatment for patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia. The authorisation is supported by Phase 3 clinical trials demonstrating LDL cholesterol reductions of up to 40% with obicetrapib monotherapy and approximately 50% when combined with ezetimibe. The treatments showed a tolerability profile comparable to placebo. Menarini holds exclusive commercialisation rights in Europe. NewAmsterdam is entitled to tiered double-digit percentage royalties on net sales and up to €833 million in potential milestone payments. The companies continue advancing obicetrapib's clinical development through multiple ongoing Phase 3 trials, including the PREVAIL cardiovascular outcomes study.
