Requirements
  • A PhD degree in a related field such as Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or Biochemistry.
  • Five years of related work experience.
  • Specialized laboratory techniques, including mass spectrometry, protein isolation, and protein purification.
  • Experience operating a mass spectrometer, preferably Thermo instruments such as Orbitrap systems.
  • Experience using Windows-based computers and related software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Expertise in proteomics data analysis is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relations with faculty, staff, students, and external entities.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work with others.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently.
Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain the Orbitrap Exploris 480 mass spectrometer.
  • Plan, develop, execute, and coordinate strategies for designated research projects and other needed projects.
  • Implement approved center and department policies and procedures in support of research projects and grant applications.
  • Interact with peers on ongoing projects, report project execution and research operations to the principal investigator, and recommend operational changes as needed.
  • Prepare research manuscripts for publication, contribute to grant preparation, and contribute to annual reports.
  • Ensure assigned research goals and objectives are accomplished within established priorities, timelines, funding limitations, and other specifications.
  • Develop and schedule project-specific research support plans according to workload, project needs, and available resources.
  • Recommend additional equipment, software, and resources needed for project development.
  • Prepare ad hoc project status reports for the director.
  • Provide staff, students, and faculty with technical advice, problem-solving assistance, and information about center and department policies related to research projects.
  • Work with evaluation professionals to advise on and implement evaluation methodologies assessing center and department effectiveness.
  • Train and supervise laboratory work performed by students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
