UW Health tests AI tool to guide breathing tube placement in newborns

UW Health doctors in Madison, Wisconsin, are testing artificial intelligence technology to guide breathing tube placement in newborns. According to Dr. Ryan McAdams, the tool operates similarly to a car's backup camera, providing visual assistance during the procedure. The AI system is designed to help medical professionals more accurately position breathing tubes in newborn patients, a critical procedure that requires precision. The technology is currently in the testing phase at the Wisconsin medical facility. The innovation represents the latest application of AI in neonatal care, where accurate placement of medical devices can be particularly challenging due to the small size of infant patients.
