Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of civil construction work practices and principles used on complex highway and bridge construction projects.
  • Skill and ability to analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Considerable technical skills and understanding of Critical Path Method schedules and preparation of engineering and administrative reports.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation Standard Specifications and Standard Details.
  • Five years of related experience working in various capacities on applicable civil construction projects.
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer registered in Rhode Island.
  • Must be able to lead and manage Construction Engineering and Inspection project staff and ensure all aspects of project work are accounted for.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AASHTOWare, and COMPASS for construction management and document control.
  • Must possess and retain a valid Professional Engineer certification.
  • Must possess and retain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and auto insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to perform work year-round in varied weather conditions and during off-hours and weekends when necessary.
  • Must maintain adequate physical ability for proper continuation of job performance.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure all project work is performed on schedule, within budget, according to plans, and in accordance with the quality standards provided by the contract specifications.
  • Supervise office and field staff.
  • Ensure all work operations adhere to approved work safety plans and environmental permits.
  • Monitor and maintain project Critical Path Method schedules and milestones, and identify and mitigate risks.
  • Evaluate contractor pay requisitions, ensure billing accuracy, and process payment approvals in a timely manner.
  • Prepare change orders, evaluate extra work requests, and perform engineering cost analysis to support negotiations.
  • Analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Coordinate with the contractor and stakeholders to mitigate scheduling conflicts and delays.
  • Lead project progress, coordination, and other incidental meetings.
  • Ensure the client is informed and kept current on project progress and all project issues.

  • Experience working on state or federally funded projects.
  • ACI Certification.
  • NETTCP Concrete certification.
  • NETTCP HMA Paving certification.
  • NETTCP Soils and Aggregate certification.
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Technician certification.
  • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health certification.
