  • Completion of a New York State-accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification from the National Health Career Association, American Medical Technologists, American Association of Medical Assistants, or National Center for Competency Testing is preferred.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support training and certification from the American Heart Association, completed through in-person classes, is required; virtual classes are not accepted.
  • Proficiency with clinical care tasks such as phlebotomy and aseptic technique is required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms according to protocol by disinfecting and stocking rooms and checking the day's vaccination and medication availability.
  • Prepare patient charts through pre-visit planning by reviewing the next working day's schedule and identifying gaps in care.
  • Ensure or obtain the patient's latest mammogram, breast ultrasound, colonoscopy, immunizations, clinical studies, or consultations required for the office visit.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and direct patient flow for maximum efficiency.
  • Collect and document patient information and clinical data, including vital signs, height and weight, allergies, active medication lists, chief complaints, pain screens, and current symptoms.
  • Obtain additional data from the patient or significant other, electrocardiogram, laboratory and diagnostic test results, and other historical data.
  • Report findings to the provider and recognize abnormal findings or changes in the patient's condition.
  • Confirm and clarify written orders before implementing delegated tasks.
  • Collect, prepare, and process laboratory specimens for on-site and remote-site testing.
  • Track and enter laboratory results in the medical record.
  • Perform quality control for waived testing and maintain testing logs.
  • Perform, prepare for, and assist with in-office procedures, including electrocardiograms, Holter monitoring, and other ancillary testing.
  • Assist with front-office duties, including greeting patients, answering phones, and verifying insurance.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Medical Assistant certification from the National Health Career Association, American Medical Technologists, American Association of Medical Assistants, or National Center for Competency Testing.
