Veterinary Technician Assistant
About the job
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow strict protocols are required.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Prepare the surgery suite and instruments at the start of each shift to ensure readiness for scheduled surgeries throughout the day.
- Clean all areas between procedures and perform end-of-shift cleaning.
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, ensuring no instruments are left unclean at the end of the shift.
- Perform weekly and monthly maintenance on autoclaves.
- Clean and maintain patient areas, including cages and runs, ensuring that runs are not used for storage.
- Wash and put away patient dishes using the kennel sink.
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations, radiographs, ultrasounds, and treatments as needed.
- Maintain hospital cleanliness throughout the day, including mopping floors and wiping down surfaces.
- Manage laundry and waste disposal, including emptying garbage cans and transporting waste to dumpsters.
- Stock and refill medical supplies, including alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, chlorhexidine scrub, and ultrasound gel, throughout the hospital.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper stocking of exam rooms and anesthetic machines.
- A basic understanding of veterinary hospital operations and animal care is preferred.
- Previous experience in a veterinary setting is preferred.
- A strong desire to learn and grow in the veterinary field is preferred.
