- A bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, with eligibility for an appropriate certification examination; alternatively, an associate degree in laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology with certification; alternatively, graduation from a military program in science with certification; or grandfathered Medical Technologist qualification obtained on or before February 28, 1992 with current certification.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist is required for the associate-degree, military-program, and grandfathered qualification pathways.
- Certification from an acceptable agency, including ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, or HHS (HEW), is required where applicable.
- At least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required.
- Ability to implement and perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations.
- Must submit to a color-acuity screening test.
- Develop and monitor test systems.
- Perform and interpret laboratory tests for the diagnosis and care of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are preferred.
