Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or relevant professional experience.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in software or data engineering, including building production data pipelines and data platforms.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a lead capacity, formal or informal, including team leadership, task breakdown, reviews, delivery ownership, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Experience directly managing a team, including hiring or interviewing and conducting formal performance reviews.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Databricks and Spark, Boomi or Rivery, and Delta Lake patterns for scalable lakehouse processing.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing ETL or ELT workflows, including orchestration and ingestion into transformation workflows across curated layers.
  • Experience partnering with application and database teams to define efficient, non-disruptive data access patterns for upstream SQL Server systems, including read replicas, change data capture, snapshot isolation, and batching strategies.
  • Demonstrated expertise implementing Medallion architecture with clear separation across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers, including enforcing guardrails that prevent consumers from reading Bronze directly.
  • Strong understanding of ingestion and source variability, including APIs, change-data-capture-enabled databases, and file drops, with the ability to select ingestion strategies for each source contract.
  • A track record of improving team maturity from reactive delivery to repeatable engineering execution through standards, patterns, documentation, and predictable throughput.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and promoting collaborative partnerships to drive results.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels, including leadership, through various mediums.
  • The ability to present and convey material formally and informally to all organizational levels.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to address short-term and long-term demands simultaneously.
  • The ability to adapt and pivot with changing business needs while maintaining a professional demeanor and leading by example.
  • The ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft suite experience, including Teams or similar web-conferencing and internal communication software.
  • A thorough understanding of business operations and processes, or the willingness to learn them expeditiously.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a team by hiring and onboarding talent, setting clear expectations, conducting formal performance reviews, and coaching accountability.
  • Lead the team in delivering the enterprise data platform roadmap by translating architecture direction into sequenced execution plans, team backlogs, and measurable outcomes.
  • Set standards for maintainability, organization, and repeatability while developing engineers through regular one-on-one meetings, timely feedback, development plans, and formal review cycles.
  • Own day-to-day execution for the Data Engineering team by breaking work into tasks, driving sprint-level planning, delegating effectively, unblocking delivery, and ensuring high-quality outcomes through engineering reviews and feedback.
  • Drive implementation of the Medallion architecture across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers using Boomi, dbt, Azure Databricks, Boomi or Rivery, Delta tables, and SQL Server.
  • Partner with the Data Architect to implement the architecture through concrete implementation patterns, reference pipelines, and guardrails.
  • Drive clear decisions and forward motion using lightweight decision records, appropriate input, and accountable execution.
  • Establish DataOps practices aligned with the software development lifecycle, including continuous integration and continuous delivery for data assets, branching and release patterns, code-review standards, and operational runbooks for pipelines.
  • Improve pipeline observability and operational reliability by monitoring freshness, staleness, failure modes, and quality signals, and ensuring predictable responses to incidents and support requests.
  • Collaborate with business partners to clarify requirements, reduce ad hoc work, and shape requests into well-scoped deliverables aligned with platform strategy.
  • Develop future leaders and succession plans for key roles through recurring responsibilities, mentoring, and strategic delegation.
  • Support and promote company values through positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in strategic business initiatives and special cross-functional projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Interest and ability to mentor or train other team members.
  • Strong Microsoft suite experience, including Teams or similar web-conferencing and internal communication software.
  • Experience working in a fully remote team.
