About the Job

Requirements

  • Multiple years of experience with just-in-time (JIT) compilers, runtime execution engines, and memory management subsystems.
  • Experience with profiling tools such as perf, ftrace, eBPF, and async-profiler.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ and a strong understanding of modern CPU microarchitecture, including pipeline execution, branch prediction, and memory consistency models.
  • Mastery of assembly language for RISC-V, x86, or ARM, and the ability to analyze JIT-generated machine code to identify suboptimal execution patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Profile and analyze core datacenter workloads to identify inefficiencies in CPU utilization, memory hierarchy, I/O throughput, and network interactions within distributed and containerized environments.
  • Establish benchmarking methodologies and performance regression testing frameworks to ensure consistent execution quality of Java-based services on RISC-V.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues within the JIT compiler and HotSpot runtime environment as the primary expert.
  • Collaborate with the Compiler Team to improve JIT code generation so the JVM effectively leverages features of the RISC-V instruction set architecture.
  • Optimize JVM parameters to improve latency and throughput.
  • Translate performance data into actionable insights for hardware architects to inform future RISC-V IP design for managed runtime environments.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience optimizing large-scale Java frameworks such as Cassandra or Hadoop within containerized or cloud-native environments.
  • A proven track record of tuning and optimizing garbage collection algorithms such as G1GC, ZGC, or Shenandoah to solve complex latency and throughput issues.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard benchmarks such as SPECjbb or DaCapo and the ability to derive meaningful insights from them.

About the Company

SiFive

Designs and sells RISC-V semiconductor cores

SiFive designs and sells RISC-V based processors and related IP for use in devices and systems. Its chips come as cores and system-on-chip designs built on the open RISC-V instruction set, enabling customers to integrate high-density, energy-efficient compute into products. Unlike competitors that rely on closed architectures, SiFive leverages openness to offer flexible, scalable, and cost-effective solutions that boost compute density. The company aims to grow the RISC-V ecosystem by delivering high-performance hardware that helps customers tackle data-heavy tasks and build smarter devices.
