- Current approved Alabama Board of Nursing Registered Nurse license or a multi-state license, or the ability to obtain one before starting.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training, or the ability to obtain it within the stated start-date window.
- An associate degree in nursing is required.
- The ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required for the Dialysis unit.
- The role requires weekend availability, including every other weekend.
- The employee must be able to perform medium physical work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects, and tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- The employee must be able to work around human body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals, hazardous materials, and cleaning solutions while using required protective equipment.

- Plan, coordinate, and direct quality, compassionate patient care while maintaining professional nursing practice standards and creating therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Supervise licensed practical nurses, patient care assistants, unit secretaries, orthopedic technicians, and other non-licensed staff.
- Assess each assigned patient on admission and continuously thereafter, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, pain, nutritional, functional, developmental, age-related, and discharge-planning needs.
- Plan, provide, and document patient and significant-other education after identifying barriers to learning.
- Evaluate and regularly reevaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
- Assign and delegate nursing care to team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities.
- Apply safety principles when performing care.
- Accurately document observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
- Provide accurate handoff reports and participate in unit-based huddles.
- Assist with performance-improvement activities, including serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with measures, and supporting and implementing improvement changes.
- Perform initial and annual competency assessments for the applicable job class.
- Prepare and perform dialysis treatments on patients within the organization.
- Identify and reduce unsafe practices and risks or hazards affecting patients, visitors, and employees.
- Use electronic mail, time-and-attendance software, learning-management software, the intranet, telephone, and texting as required.
- Address conflict and stressful situations and communicate with different personalities in face-to-face discussions.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
