Requirements
  • Significant experience in tutor development, ideally within an education technology or tutoring marketplace setting or within a well-respected training institution.
  • Experience designing and delivering high-quality tutor development at scale.
  • Strong previous experience delivering one-to-one training in an online environment.
  • A strong network in tutor development circles and demonstrable thought leadership around teaching quality.
  • Excellent communication and deep facilitation skills, with an understanding of how to engage learners in online environments.
  • Comfort using data tools such as Amplitude and Looker to evaluate performance and continuously improve learning impact.
  • Confidence working with subject matter experts and cross-functional Product, Communications, and Data teams to build targeted, high-quality courses.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
Responsibilities
  • Together with Learning Design and Supply Operations, define and refine Preply’s teaching quality standards and develop a strategy to ensure tutor quality grows measurably quarter by quarter for language and non-language subjects.
  • Lead the pedagogical and assessment strategy for the Initial Tutor Training program, ensuring it is high quality and suitable for one-to-one tutors globally.
  • Continuously analyze teaching-quality metrics and optimize tutor-development content and strategy to improve growth in teaching quality.
  • Commission appropriate tutor-development content and hire and train subject-matter experts across subject areas to ensure tutor-development programs set tutors up for success.
  • Together with the Supply Engagement team, develop the Tutor Academy strategy, including pedagogical content, roadmap, delivery methods, and contributions to the annual Tutor Conference and regular webinar schedule.
  • With the Supply Engagement team, develop assessment content and delivery strategy for tutor-development programs.
  • With the B2B team, develop specific teaching strategies and assessment and course-content requirements to meet client needs.
  • Work closely with the Learning Design team to align future tutor-development curriculum strategy with the self-learning curriculum and in-lesson feature-development strategy.
  • Work closely with the Customer Experience team to develop specific content related to teaching children.
  • Act as an internal and external thought leader on tutor development, helping raise the perception of Preply as a leader in tutor and teaching quality.

  • Experience in global language tutoring marketplaces, ideally in cross-functional product or operations environments.
  • Experience with tutor development for language subjects.
  • Experience with tutor development for teaching young children.
  • Experience with delivering training or tutor development for corporate clients.
  • Experience using artificial intelligence tools to enhance teaching and educator development or to develop content.
  • Experience building partnerships with external providers for assessment, certification, or validation of training quality.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, especially Spanish.

Preply, the global language learning marketplace, has raised $150 million in a Series D round led by WestCap, valuing the company at $1.2 billion. Goldman Sachs International acted as sole placement agent. The platform connects over 100,000 tutors with students in 180 countries, offering one-on-one lessons in more than 90 languages. Preply combines human tutoring with AI-powered tools, with research showing students progress up to three times faster than average benchmarks. The Preply 2025 Efficiency Study found 96% of learners consider human tutoring essential for progress. Since its Series C round, Preply has more than tripled its bookable tutors and added 40 new languages whilst achieving positive EBITDA. The funding will expand AI capabilities and accelerate global growth. Total funding now stands at approximately $299 million.
