- Graduate of an accredited sleep technician training program.
- Active Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- National Provider Identifier required.
- Active, full, current, and unrestricted sleep technologist license if required by the issuing state; the license may be held in any U.S. jurisdiction.
- No history of suspended, revoked, restricted, surrendered, or denied licensure.
- Minimum two years of independent experience performing in-lab polysomnography, titration studies, Home Sleep Apnea Testing, and sleep study scoring.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- No sponsorship available.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
- Ability to push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
- Perform overnight polysomnography, diagnostic studies, split-night studies, titration studies, and parasomnia studies.
- Conduct daytime sleep testing, including Multiple Sleep Latency Tests and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests.
- Support Home Sleep Apnea Testing, including device preparation, patient instruction, and data download.
- Score respiratory events, sleep stages, arousals, limb movements, cardiac rhythms, parasomnias, and related sleep data.
- Prepare studies for physician review with technical summaries and documentation.
- Identify abnormal findings requiring escalation to supervising providers.
- Set up, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot polysomnography equipment and monitoring systems.
- Perform daily quality-control checks on sleep-lab equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions to Biomedical Engineering and Information Technology support.
- Apply and monitor continuous positive airway pressure, bilevel, adaptive servo-ventilation, spontaneous/timed, and volume-assured pressure support therapies under physician orders.
- Adjust treatment settings according to American Academy of Sleep Medicine titration guidelines.
- Monitor mask fit, leaks, patient tolerance, and therapeutic response.
- Explain procedures to patients and ensure patient comfort and safety.
- Monitor oxygen saturation, respiratory effort, cardiac rhythms, sleep stages, body position, snoring, seizures, arrhythmias, parasomnias, and other physiologic parameters.
- Recognize and correct artifacts affecting study quality.
- Respond to emergencies, including initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation and activating Code Blue procedures when necessary.
- Complete accurate documentation in Computerized Patient Record System and electronic health record systems.
- Prepare patient charts, technical notes, and diagnostic records.
- Attend required staff meetings.
- Complete quality-assurance and quality-improvement documentation and participate in quality-improvement activities.
- Follow patient-safety, infection-control, privacy, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
- Support training and supervision of Health Professions Trainees.
- Demonstrate sleep-study procedures and equipment setup.
- Participate in Sleep Lab accreditation and quality-control activities.
- Assist with positive airway pressure supply requests and other Sleep Lab operational needs.
