Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current and active state-approved medication aide or medication technician certification is required.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • The employee must be able to walk or stand for extended periods and move throughout the community and resident apartments.
  • The employee must be able to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance.
  • The employee must communicate effectively and identify and interpret written information.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • The employee must follow infection prevention and control protocols, including using personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • The employee must complete a background check and drug screening, required health assessments such as tuberculosis testing or physical evaluations, and required personal protective equipment procedures.
  • The employee must stay current on required training and ongoing education initiatives.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct resident care and distribute medications according to each resident’s individualized care plan.
  • Observe residents, communicate condition changes to physicians, health care proxies, and supervisors, and provide timely interventions as instructed.
  • Document observations, incidents, interventions, communications, clinical procedures, and daily medication assistance and care throughout the shift.
  • Pass required information to the next shift and supervisor, and oversee timely documentation by Resident Assistants.
  • Check and record vital signs, weights, and blood sugars as assigned.
  • Monitor resident rooms and rounds and use proactive interventions to maintain safety.
  • Administer and document medications according to the five rights: right medication, right route, right resident, right time, and right dose.
  • Provide glucose monitoring and administer insulin when insulin-certified.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing or showering, oral care, toileting, and dressing.
  • Assist residents with nutritional and hydration needs and document this care on the nursing record.
  • Perform restorative nursing techniques, including positioning, activities-of-daily-living training, and passive range of motion.
  • Assist residents with transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and respond to urgent calls.
  • Help residents attend scheduled facility activities.
  • Maintain a restraint-free environment and support fall-prevention programs.
  • Welcome, orient, and transfer residents according to facility procedures.
  • Assist with post-mortem care as instructed.
  • Oversee the medication delivery system, including order entry, receipt and tracking, medication administration record documentation, narcotic counts, and medication check-in.
  • Notify the pharmacy and supervisor of medication issues and seek timely resolution.
  • Attend in-service classes and staff meetings, assist with orienting new employees, and lead or coach resident assistants and certified nursing assistants.
  • Promote each resident’s physical, personal, and emotional well-being and support maximum self-care and independence.
  • Understand and follow residents’ advance directives.
  • Ensure effective communication with residents’ families about their care and well-being.
  • Take direction from management, use initiative, and participate in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others.
  • Participate in staff activities and work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current insulin certification is preferred.
  • Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification is preferred.
