Requirements
- Current New York State certification as a certified nursing assistant, or eligibility for certification within four months of hire.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to adapt to schedule changes and weekend rotations to meet resident needs.
- Ability to deal tactfully with residents, families, and other employees and cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
- Ability to understand and carry out directions and instructions.
- Ability to report changes in residents’ conditions and other pertinent information.
- Ability to take and record information and basic records.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software rapidly.
- Ability to work in environments involving odors, medical waste, disease, and unsanitary conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform resident care according to policy, procedure, and standards as delegated by the nursing manager, care coordinator, registered nurse, or charge nurse.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
- Recognize and respond to emergent situations efficiently and effectively.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living and special care needs indicated on the resident care assignment sheet.
- Set priorities according to residents’ needs and organize and reprioritize work throughout the shift.
- Ensure necessary supplies and equipment for patient care are available and stored efficiently.
- Observe residents for specific signs and symptoms as instructed by team leaders.
- Report changes in residents’ behavior or condition to the team leader.
- Apply appropriate knowledge and technical skills when performing resident care.
- Use skills and knowledge in accordance with residents’ identified geriatric and age-related needs.
- Demonstrate understanding of role limitations relating to patient care.
- Document resident care accurately, using the appropriate tool and in a timely manner.
- Engage with family members or other support persons while providing care.
