Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Attend the General Food Handlers course from the Suffolk County Department of Health.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure dining areas and the kitchen are appropriately prepared for serving client meals.
  • Perform meal-planning duties, including table preparation, counting meals to be served, setting up trays, portioning food, cleaning food before preparation, and monitoring cooking ovens and burners in accordance with standards and special diets as needed.
  • Clear tables, store serving items, wash and disinfect work areas, and collect and dispose of trash.
  • Inventory stock, including meals served and storage-room contents; reorder, inventory, and store necessary food items.
  • Prepare notes from clients or other staff related to service delivery and forward them to the supervisor.
  • Alert the supervisor to food-related problems involving service, food delivery, or food distribution.
  • Orient volunteers to kitchen standards, policies, and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • A minimum of six months of previous related experience is preferred.
