Requirements
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school is required.
  • Candidates should have an established record or promise of legal scholarship.
  • Candidates must be proficient in teaching in and managing a virtual classroom.
  • Candidates must be proficient in, or able to become proficient in, advanced technology tools used in in-person and virtual classrooms.
  • Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Candidates must be proficient in Zoom and Canvas or a similar learning management system.
  • Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, organizational, conflict-resolution, and negotiation abilities.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring students.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach graduate-level law courses in physical and/or virtual classrooms as assigned.
  • Prepare syllabi, assessments, final examinations, assignments, handouts, and other course materials.
  • Grade student assessments, examinations, and assignments in a timely manner and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Meet regularly with assigned student advisees.
  • Maintain accurate student records.
  • Maintain a regular physical presence at the Montana Law Center campus.
  • Stay current in teaching skills and expertise in the subjects taught.
  • Remain current on changes in the law, including statutory changes and case law developments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching and research issues.
  • Conduct legal research and produce innovative legal scholarship.
  • Provide service to legal education and the wider community.
  • Engage in the intellectual life of the Law Center.
  • Participate on faculty and University committees.
  • Attend faculty meetings and Law Center and student events.
  • Travel for conferences and professional development.
Desired Qualifications
  • Legal practice experience is preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
