Requirements
  • Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Current Practical Nurse license by New Jersey state Nursing Board requirements.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance.
  • Must have understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with physicians and fellow workers. Must pay attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be self-motivated and work in an efficient and effective manner.
Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of a professional RN, functions as an LPN and demonstrates proficient practice in medication administration, data collection, serving as a liaison for the patient, assisting with therapeutic treatments and procedures.
  • Assists the RN and interdisciplinary team in evaluating, planning, and implementing plans of care. Provides appropriate, direct patient care such as give injections, check vital signs, perform basic point of care testing, perform phlebotomy, administer oxygen therapy/breathing treatments, dress wounds, and administer medications.
  • Observes and documents patient's symptoms, condition, and/or reactions to medications and treatments. Reports results to the RN. Complies with established medication use policies.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and families regarding their care and concerns. Establishes appropriate and effective communication strategies. Discusses any patient or family concerns with RN so that the issue can be appropriately addressed. Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner. Complies with safety policies, procedures including standard precautions, and hospital related information.
  • Reports abnormal vital signs or critical patient condition to the RN or provider. Alerts the RN to any problems, changes or unusual signs or symptoms of the patient.
  • Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
  • May participate in orientation of new staff members. Serves as a resource for staff and other disciplines.
  • Suggests and supports changes within the department.
