About the job

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience building and managing high-performing, inclusive teams, attracting top talent, fostering accountability, and ensuring all voices inform decisions.
  • Experience delivering and operating high-performance data pipelines with near-real-time latency, balanced consistency and partition tolerance, behind production internet consumer-scale workloads.

  • Ability to build cross-functional partnerships, influence strategic direction, and empower team members across global teams.
Responsibilities
  • Own the reliability and timeliness of real-time catalog feeds and the publication pipeline serving downstream member-facing systems, including fast and override lanes that prevent bad entries from blocking the catalog.
  • Own and evolve Catalog Entity, the shared content-modeling abstraction, to represent common structure and content-type-specific variation across films, episodic series, live shows, sports, and future content types without bespoke pipelines for each.
  • Own catalog data integrity by validating collected data against the model and business logic, holding back or overriding bad changes, and detecting and remediating systemic feed failures.
  • Partner with peer teams on setup-side object modeling and the downstream member-facing contract.
  • Lead collaboration with engineers, program managers, product managers, and other stakeholders to drive vision, strategy, and adoption.
  • Foster accountability and ensure timely, reliable delivery of the team's roadmap to support business needs.

  • Build an inclusive team culture where everyone feels empowered, accepted, and respected.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience building generative AI solutions in ambiguous environments, experimenting creatively, developing innovative approaches, and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading engineering teams supporting large-scale data pipelines that update in the 10 million-plus updates-per-second range.
  • Experience with in-memory data snapshot architectures, point-in-time consistency, or graph-aware rollback and recovery systems.
  • Experience leading the operation and optimization of CPU- and memory-intensive cloud services in the range of thousands to tens of thousands of CPUs.

What believers are saying

  • Growth is steady: July 2026 results showed second-quarter revenue up 13% to $12.6 billion, with a 33.4% operating margin.
  • Advertising is scaling fast: in July 2026, Netflix forecast ad revenue roughly doubling to about $3 billion this year.
  • Pay aims high: Netflix's culture memo says it pays each person's personal top of market for role and location.

What critics are saying

  • Cuts are on the table: Puck reported in October 2026 that Netflix is weighing layoffs of about 5% of staff.
  • The performance bar is unforgiving: managers apply a keeper test, asking whether they would fight to keep each employee.
  • YouTube draws more TV viewing: figures reported in October 2026 put it at 14.2% of TV time, Netflix at 7.8%.

What makes Netflix unique

  • Scale is its moat: Netflix passed 325 million paid memberships by the end of 2025, serving nearly a billion viewers.
  • Non-English shows carry real weight: they drew over a third of Netflix viewing in the first half of 2026.
  • It owns its ad technology: the in-house Netflix Ads Suite has run in all 12 ad-tier countries since mid-2025.

Ives backs SpaceX over Netflix: $225 target on $14.6B AI-fuelled quarter

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives prefers SpaceX over Netflix after both reported earnings this week. He rates SpaceX Outperform with a $225 price target, about 52% above Tuesday's close, and Netflix In Line with a $75 target. SpaceX shares surged after third-quarter revenue rose 161% year over year to $14.6 billion, above the roughly $13 billion Wall Street expected. Adjusted earnings were $0.35 per share against expectations of $0.16. Its Super Intelligence business brought in $7.6 billion, up 830%, and is now its largest unit. Capital spending is the main worry, at $19.6 billion for the quarter, including $16.4 billion for AI infrastructure. Netflix shares fell after fourth-quarter earnings guidance came in below consensus. It also cut its full-year advertising revenue forecast to $2.7 billion from $3 billion.

Netflix falls 6% on weak $13.4B Q4 outlook, hitting 623 ETFs and leveraged funds

Netflix shares fell about 6% in premarket trading on Wednesday after the streaming company gave a weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter revenue outlook. The stock is down nearly 27% this year. Netflix reported third-quarter revenue of $12.9 billion, roughly in line with expectations. It projected fourth-quarter revenue of $13.4 billion, below analysts' estimates, with year-over-year growth slowing to 11.5% from 17.6%. Its advertising business is running about $300 million below expectations. The drop matters for the 623 ETFs that hold the stock. The T-Rex 2X Long NFLX Daily Target ETF, Roundhill NFLX WeeklyPay ETF, and Direxion Daily NFLX Bull 2X ETF are the most concentrated, and leveraged products could suffer losses much larger than the stock's move.

Netflix cuts 1,000 jobs and ousts content chiefs as it bets on Peter Rice to refocus strategy

Netflix has laid off about 1,000 employees, including content chief Bela Bejaria and film head Dan Lin, in a plan to refocus its content under new hire Peter Rice. The shake-up follows Netflix's pursuit of Warner Bros. last year, which unsettled Wall Street. Investors now value the company more like a traditional media business than a tech giant such as Google or Apple. Several bets have not paid off as expected or are still in development. The advertising tier and live events look likely to stay; podcasts, gaming, creator deals, and Netflix House experiences are less certain. On the latest earnings call, co-chief executive officers Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters said the strategy was not changing, though changes are being made at the margins.

Netflix eyes cinemas with 30 releases in 2027, but insists streaming comes first

Netflix plans 30 theatrical releases in 2027, matching 2026, even as co-chief executive Ted Sarandos insists the company remains streaming-first. Greta Gerwig's "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" will get a wide release and a 49-day exclusive theatrical window in February. The shift comes as viewership growth stalls and the stock has fallen roughly 30% since January. Netflix, which spent $20 billion on content last year, also replaced chief content officer Bela Bajaria with former Disney executive Peter Rice and laid off about 1,000 employees. Analysts say theatrical could build fan bases and attract talent. Wells Fargo's Steven Cahall noted Netflix lacks the distribution team, content pipeline, and marketing arm for a full commitment, especially after its failed bid for the Warner Bros. film studio.

Netflix stock slips after Q3 results: has it abandoned prestige content for YouTube-style fare?

Netflix shares fell on Wednesday after the streaming giant reported third-quarter earnings. Analysts on a Yahoo Finance panel debated whether the company still delivers the prestige content subscribers expect, especially after Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. One panellist called Netflix the best media company to own, but said the stock, at 18 times forward earnings, reflects a lack of new content. He said the question is whether Netflix wants to out-do YouTube with short-form videos, and that it needs strong content either way, through acquisition or in-house. Another panellist defended the company. Netflix still has 12% revenue growth and record margins, he said, and the market may simply have reached saturation. He called the slowdown modest for a media business.
