Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience building electromechanical assemblies from drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
  • Methodical attention to detail in testing and quality verification.
  • A track record of working with engineers to troubleshoot and improve designs, processes, and instructions.
Responsibilities
  • Own completed tools end to end, including calibration, testing, and maintenance of tools in the fleet.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical assembly of semiconductor equipment, including components, subassemblies, tools, and fabs.
  • Build wire harnesses and solder through-hole and surface-mount technology components.
  • Conduct in-process testing of components, subassemblies, and completed tools to verify functionality and identify defects.
  • Use computer-aided design models, drawings, and bills of materials to perform builds, verify part revisions, and identify discrepancies between as-designed and as-built conditions.
  • Partner with manufacturing and mechanical engineers to improve equipment designs, assembly processes, and work instructions.
  • Support bring-up and installation of tools and fabs, troubleshooting issues alongside engineering.
  • Use light fabrication equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and jigs to produce parts and assembly aids.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in mechanical inspection of assemblies and components, with strong mechanical intuition.
  • Experience with precision assembly or vacuum systems.
  • Experience with end-of-line testing and integration.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning or inventory systems.

Fab2 is building a compact semiconductor fabrication facility to produce chips for smartphones, computers, and other electronics. The facility runs semiconductor manufacturing, using in-house tools and processes to create smaller, more efficient chips with advanced geometries. The business sells manufactured chips to tech companies and may offer fabrication services to others, providing both product sales and contract manufacturing. What sets Fab2 apart from larger, traditional fabs is its focus on agility: a smaller footprint, faster ramp, and the ability to adapt quickly to new processes and geometries. The goal is to make semiconductor manufacturing faster and more accessible by offering a nimble, capable fab that can serve multiple industries and drive ongoing chip innovation.

Simplify Jobs

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Rapid iteration suits defense, industrial, sensor, and photonics customers.
  • In-house tooling can reduce supplier dependence and shorten development cycles.
  • Fab replication creates potential equipment-sales and licensing revenue beyond chip production.

What critics are saying

  • High integration complexity can delay one subsystem and stall the entire fab stack.
  • Low-volume e-beam prototyping cannot replace high-volume foundry economics.
  • Besoke calibration for each miniature fab blocks scalable replication and weakens unit economics.

What makes Fab2 unique

  • Fab2 builds every fab tool in-house, from pumps to lithography systems.
  • It targets software-defined, small fabs for prototype turnaround in hours.
  • Its Austin, Lockhart, and San Francisco sites support a vertically integrated fab stack.
