About the job
- A Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering Management or a similar degree is required, although commensurate experience in the construction field may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer in the commercial construction industry is required.
- At least 1 year of experience with construction software platforms is required.
- Proficiency in all Project Engineer responsibilities is required.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, is required.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
- Strong management and leadership skills are required.
- The ability to work within tight deadlines and stressful situations is required.
- Strong organization and time-management skills are required.
- Working knowledge of critical-task scheduling is required.
- The ability to understand plan specifications, scopes of work, and other necessary construction documents is required.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment is required.
- The employee must have, or complete within six months of hire, CPR and first-aid certifications and OSHA 10 training.
- The employee must be available to work flexible hours consistent with a Senior Project Engineer in the construction industry.
- Assist the project team with day-to-day management of project operations, including client relationships, subcontractor relationships, and project-team coordination.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and safely.
- Maintain strong working relationships with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and the project team.
- Uphold and communicate Pence safety standards.
- Take ownership of project decisions and make day-to-day decisions that enhance profitability without sacrificing company values or relationships.
- Mentor interns and other field and project engineers.
- Mitigate and report project risk.
- Follow project policies and procedures and ensure others do as well.
- Participate in meetings and committees.
- Work with the project management team to nurture positive relationships with owners and architects.
- Understand owner contract requirements.
- Perform constructability reviews in partnership with the Project Superintendent.
- Participate in project bidding and guaranteed maximum price development.
- Develop project schedules and identify key schedule risks, including long-lead procurement items.
- Verify permitting, local licenses, and approvals required to begin the job.
- Ensure project insurance, including builder's risk insurance and bonds, is obtained before the job begins.
- Participate in pre-construction activities relating to estimating, bidding, project logistics, and similar responsibilities.
- Assist the project management team in identifying and managing project risk and profitability.
- Resolve the project budget into scopes of work and executed contracts while improving project profitability.
- Participate in project forecasting development and presentation.
- Manage the project quality assurance and quality control process in partnership with the field team.
- Manage project documentation processes.
- Understand project specifications and drawing requirements.
- Manage the submittal process.
- Manage the request for information process in partnership with the field team.
- Manage the procurement process, including buyout.
- Manage the change-management process.
- Set up and coordinate weekly job meetings and meeting minutes.
- Manage project cash flow.
- Manage the monthly owner-billing process.
- Review and approve monthly invoices from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Manage delivery of closeout documents and owner training.
- Implement the one-year warranty and manage activities throughout the warranty period.
- Create and process final change orders.
- Produce final cost accounting for the job.
- Identify contractual substantial-completion requirements and obtain notices for substantial and final completion.
- Protect project lien rights.
- Initiate the post-closeout review.
