Requirements
  • Graduate from or complete a program that meets eligibility requirements for registry or certification, or currently hold the required registry or certification.
  • Hold certification by either RDMS, RVT, or ARRT (S).
  • Maintain an active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Have 6 months to 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Have knowledge of Radiology Information System (RIS) systems.
  • Have knowledge of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) systems.
Responsibilities
  • Perform general and diagnostic or therapeutic sonographic examinations using ultrasound equipment, properly position patients, and locate and scan areas for physician or radiologist interpretation.
  • Use judgment to determine necessary measurements for the area being examined and perform computer processing for ultrasound examinations.
  • Provide patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Instruct patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Assemble pertinent patient information and images and deliver them to the radiologist or physician for interpretation or review according to established procedures.
  • Provide staff and patient protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards when operating equipment.
  • Use and optimize software applications, including the Picture Archiving and Communication System, and maintain and update patient records to ensure billing and Radiology Information System/Picture Archiving and Communication System accuracy.
  • Maintain ultrasound and laboratory equipment and examination rooms in appropriate operating condition.
  • Perform related technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager, including quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • May mentor less senior ultrasound technologists.
  • Travel between Jefferson sites as required.
