Requirements
  • A J.D. from an American Bar Association-accredited law school is required; foreign equivalents are considered case by case.
  • A master's degree in library and information science from an American Library Association-accredited institution is required.
  • Superior academic credentials are required.
  • A commitment to outstanding teaching is required.
  • Strong administrative, communication, and leadership skills are required.
  • Tenure-track candidates must demonstrate a record of or strong potential for sustained scholarly achievement.
  • Candidates must provide a current CV or resume, three references, and official transcripts of both J.D. and MLS degrees.
  • A satisfactory pre-employment background check is required.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization is required at the time of hire and throughout employment.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the chief administrator of the Law Library and oversee all aspects of library management and operations.
  • Manage budgeting, financial oversight, purchasing, and procurement.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and manage personnel within the Law Library.
  • Provide library services, reference and research services, and legal research instruction.
  • Lead collection development, maintenance, and resource management.
  • Manage the Law Library's physical facilities and plant operations.
  • Coordinate and instruct advanced and specialized legal research courses within the legal research program.
  • Teach courses in the legal research and writing curriculum, with the possibility of teaching additional doctrinal courses.
  • Maintain professional and scholarly engagement through library and information science scholarship and participation in conferences and academic or peer settings.
  • Lead strategic planning and implementation with the Dean and members of the Law Center and LSU community.
  • Ensure collections and resources support the instructional, research, and service missions of the Law Center community.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with American Bar Association and Association of American Law Schools accreditation standards and membership requirements.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive workplace aligned with the mission of the LSU Law Center.
  • Champion cooperative resource sharing and technology procurement through the statewide LOUIS consortium.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by the Dean of the Law Center.
