About the job

Requirements
  • At least 10 years of experience building production software, including at least 3 years as a staff or principal engineer or technical lead on a platform team.
  • Regular, direct customer work and a record of turning customer learning into shipped product quickly.
  • Products, APIs, or developer experiences shaped to a high usability standard that can be demonstrated.
  • Hands-on experience shipping large language model, retrieval, or agent systems as products, with evaluation in production.
  • Evidence of using artificial intelligence tools to measurably accelerate a team's development lifecycle.
  • Experience making build decisions involving business trade-offs, such as cost to serve, pricing, or time to market.
  • Deep experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed data pipelines, and API design.
Responsibilities
  • Meet customers regularly with product, solutions, and revenue teams, and translate customer feedback into roadmap priorities.
  • Measure the time from customer request to shipped change and make reducing it a team priority.
  • Own the platform user experience across the API and developer experience, agent responses, and product workflows; work with product to make them simple, fast, and clear, and prevent shipping work that falls short.
  • Set the technical direction and architecture for the commercial platform, including imagery ingestion and processing, data and catalogue, identity and enterprise sign-in, semantic search, and agent infrastructure for AI products.
  • Oversee engineering design and architecture for agentic products, including retrieval, tools, evaluation, answer quality, and latency, measuring accuracy at every release.
  • Rebuild the development lifecycle around AI, including agents that write, review, and test code, evaluations in continuous integration, and a faster release process.
  • Turn product direction and customer feedback into a sequenced roadmap and report delivery against it honestly.
  • Evaluate feature build and operating costs against customer and business value, and consider broader business priorities.
  • Raise engineering standards through design reviews, testing, observability, reliability targets, and incident practices.
  • Lead and grow the platform and data engineering team, including setting priorities, technical mentorship, hiring, and performance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with geospatial data, remote sensing, or imagery processing is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise identity, multi-tenant software as a service, or marketplace platforms is preferred.

About the company

SkyWatch builds the infrastructure to distribute Earth observation data. It aggregates imagery from many satellite operators and serves two main customer groups through two products. For data consumers, EarthCache offers a single API to search, order, and integrate satellite imagery into applications, lowering the complexity of dealing with multiple providers and licensing models. For satellite operators, TerraStream provides data storage, cataloging, ordering, and delivery, acting like a marketplace backend that lets operators monetize their data without handling distribution logistics. Revenue comes from pay-as-you-go pricing for data consumers and subscription services for providers. The company’s aim is to democratize access to Earth observation data and expand the commercial space economy by making it easier to obtain and monetize satellite imagery.

What believers are saying

  • July 2026 ArcGIS Enterprise support opens regulated government and utility deployments.
  • June 2026 Microsoft Planetary Computer Pro integration removes ingestion friction for Azure analysts.
  • February 2026 Spexi drone imagery and January 2026 Nearmap expand premium supply.

What critics are saying

  • SkyWatch's last disclosed funding is 2021 Series B; growth now depends on partner expansion.
  • Esri and Microsoft disintermediate SkyWatch by bundling imagery procurement directly into their platforms.
  • If satellite operators bypass SkyWatch's marketplace, TerraStream becomes a thin middleware layer.

What makes SkyWatch unique

  • EarthCache unifies satellite, aerial, and drone imagery through one procurement API.
  • TerraStream monetizes provider data end-to-end, from cataloging to delivery and rights control.
  • SkyWatch embeds imagery inside ArcGIS, Microsoft Planetary Computer Pro, and Copilot workflows.

SkyWatch partners with Microsoft to automate satellite imagery delivery into Planetary Computer Pro

SkyWatch has integrated its commercial Earth observation platform with Microsoft Planetary Computer Pro, enabling enterprise customers to automatically transfer purchased satellite imagery directly into their analytics environment. The integration, built on the SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog specification, eliminates manual data transfer steps between procurement and analysis. Licensed imagery is now delivered automatically into Microsoft Planetary Computer Pro GeoCatalog, removing the need for file exports or pipeline reconstruction. The collaboration particularly benefits customers in energy, mining, agriculture, infrastructure and insurance sectors running geospatial workloads on Azure. The integration adds to SkyWatch's existing Microsoft partnerships, including single sign-on via Microsoft Entra and imagery discovery within Microsoft 365 Copilot. The feature is available to SkyWatch HUB customers today.
