Requirements
  • An M.D. or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants must be board-eligible ophthalmologists.
  • Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited ophthalmology residency program before starting the vitreoretinal surgery fellowship.
  • Applicants must be able to perform ophthalmic clinical and surgical functions, including maintaining the stated vision, hearing, dexterity, mobility, and lifting capabilities.
  • Employment authorization is verified through the federal E-Verify program.
Responsibilities
  • Develop the knowledge base, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical and surgical skills needed to provide ethical ophthalmic eye care to patients with retinal disease.
  • Perform vitreoretinal surgery procedures in the clinic and operating room under direct supervision.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases encountered in adult vitreoretinal surgery and disease.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases encountered in pediatric vitreoretinal surgery and disease.
  • Diagnose diseases in posterior segment ocular oncology.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases in uveitis and inflammatory conditions.
  • Take call and manage patients after hours with resident physicians as a comprehensive ophthalmologist.
  • Discuss vitreoretinal surgery and disease cases encountered while on call with a vitreoretinal surgeon before initiating the care plan.
