Causal, data-driven maps of complex systems
$200k - $320k/yr

In Person
System, Inc. helps people understand and address complex global problems by turning vast data into system maps. It builds data-driven graphical models that show how factors interrelate—starting with public health topics like COVID-19 and its links to diabetes and obesity—and aggregates thousands of sources, including peer-reviewed research, to illustrate cause-and-effect relationships. The platform is designed for researchers, policymakers, and the public to explore problems, identify intervention points, and make smarter decisions based on how events and conditions influence each other. What sets System apart is its focus on systems thinking and causal inference within a public benefit framework, plus a dedicated platform for visualizing knowledge graphs that connect data to real-world decisions. The company aims to improve collective understanding of complex systems and empower better actions by revealing interdependencies and intervention points across global issues.

System, a Public Benefit Corporation building a quantitative model of the world as one interconnected system, has received a $6.5 million program-related investment from Wellcome Trust. This marks one of the foundation's first such investments in public interest technology. The funding will enable System to release the System Graph into the commons, develop open-source tools for researchers, and build a global community of systems thinkers. The System Graph aims to organise data and knowledge across traditional silos like disciplines and scales. Under the agreement, System must maintain its Public Benefit Corporation status for five years and cannot materially change its mission without Wellcome's approval. Founder and CEO Adam Bly said the investment ensures the company's mission remains durable and sustainable whilst driving systems-based research and solutions globally.
