Requirements
  • A university degree or equivalent technical certification in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics is preferred.
  • Generally, no directly related experience or less than one year of experience may be acceptable; commensurate experience may be considered.
  • Experience in Field Engineering, Compliance, or Quality Engineering is preferred.
  • ASQ certification is a plus.
  • Experience with UL Standards, 508A, and Industrial Control Panels is a plus.
  • A general electronics background and strong mechanical and technical aptitude are required, including the ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to cross-sell and understand client business needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and client-interfacing skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • French language proficiency is an asset.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Must be located in or willing to relocate to Moncton, New Brunswick, and able to travel regularly within the Atlantic Canada area.
Responsibilities
  • Perform safety and non-safety certification inspections, quality-system audits, and field evaluations in accordance with required performance standards and requirements.
  • Analyze and evaluate examination and test results against applicable requirements.
  • Use technical judgment to determine whether noncompliance compromises the continued application of the UL Mark and whether alternatives achieve compliance.
  • Interpret and analyze examination and test results against UL requirements, verify the accuracy of manufacturers’ measuring equipment, and review production and inspection records.
  • Review manufacturers’ production, inspection, and shipping programs to ensure products are produced and marked in compliance with UL requirements.
  • Evaluate and facilitate corrective-action options when variations from UL requirements are identified.
  • Communicate with manufacturers, customers, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and other parties to conduct certification inspections and investigate misuse of the UL Mark.
  • Provide information on policies and procedures for UL services and promote and explain new and existing services.
  • Discuss procedures, test methods, test results, sample selection, and product, device, process, system, and material variations to resolve problems, implement changes to requirements, or help develop new requirements.
  • Use instruments such as micrometers, voltmeters, ammeters, and other UL equipment to perform inspections.
  • Observe manufacturers’ equipment use, confirm calibration of manufacturers’ measuring equipment, and perform calibration of UL equipment when required.
  • Document examinations, variations, and test results on appropriate UL forms.
  • Maintain inspection-scheduling, time, and expense logs.
  • Perform calculations in multiple engineering fields, including electrical, mechanical, chemical, and fire protection.
  • Integrate continuous-improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Travel locally and regionally for client visits, training, and workload support.

UL Solutions opens automotive EMC laboratory in Japan's Toyota City

UL Solutions has opened a new automotive electromagnetic compatibility laboratory in Toyota City, Japan, beginning operations on 1 July. The 2,323-square-metre facility will provide EMC testing to help manufacturers protect vehicles from interference affecting critical systems like braking and steering. The Automotive Technology and Innovation Centre is among few EMC laboratories in Japan equipped for high-voltage, high-current, high-torque and high-speed rotational testing. Its chambers can handle up to 25,000 RPM and power supplies delivering up to 1,500 volts and 1,000 amps. Located in Japan's Tokai region, the facility strengthens UL Solutions' global EMC testing network and supports automakers in the world's third-largest vehicle market, which produced over 8 million vehicles in 2025.

UL Solutions prices $980M secondary offering at $49 per share

UL Solutions has priced an underwritten secondary public offering of 20 million shares of Class A common stock at $49 per share, raising $980 million. The shares are being sold entirely by selling stockholder UL Standards & Engagement, with underwriters holding a 30-day option to purchase an additional 3 million shares. The global applied safety science company will not offer any shares and will receive no proceeds from the sale. The offering is expected to close on 9 September 2024, subject to customary conditions. Latham & Watkins represented both UL Solutions and the selling stockholder, led by Chicago partners Cathy Birkeland and Christopher Lueking. The firm previously advised UL Solutions on its $1.08 billion IPO, one of 2024's largest initial public offerings.
