Responsibilities
  • Lead initiatives related to community services and outreach.
  • Serve as the primary liaison and advisor to City Council, City departments, school districts, residents, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote and improve services and engage the community based on changing needs.
  • Arrange staff development and training opportunities related to services.
  • Assist in developing short- and long-range plans.
  • Assist in formulating City policies and operating procedures.
  • Identify and collect information, conduct research and data analysis, compile data, write and present reports summarizing findings, and make recommendations.
  • Respond to and resolve sensitive inquiries, complaints, and issues from internal and external sources.
  • Research and identify new and renewal grant opportunities and complete and submit grant applications.
  • Review legislation, regulations, and policies to determine their impact.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Equity Division and community partners, including grassroots community organizations and cross-sector agencies.
  • Develop and manage cross-sector partnerships, secure external resources for community initiatives, design and implement community-responsive programs, and evaluate program effectiveness and impact.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain strategic partnerships with community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, businesses, philanthropic organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop partnerships that expand the City's capacity to address identified community priorities and improve outcomes for residents.
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and environmental scans to identify potential partners, existing community assets, service gaps, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Convene and facilitate meetings, working groups, community discussions, and collaborative planning sessions involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish partnership objectives, roles, responsibilities, deliverables, and measures of success.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking partnerships, commitments, activities, outcomes, and opportunities for continued collaboration.
  • Represent the Equity Division at community meetings, partner meetings, interdepartmental initiatives, and other public-facing engagements.
  • Build relationships grounded in transparency, reciprocity, accountability, and respect for community knowledge and expertise.
  • Provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others as needed.

Austin Water secures $55M low-interest funding for pipe replacement and infrastructure projects

Austin Water has secured $55 million in low-interest funding from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas for capital improvement projects. The first tranche of $13 million carries an interest rate as low as 2.895%, expected to save upwards of $1.5 million in interest over the 20-year loan period. The funding will primarily replace ageing polybutylene pipes, with $45 million allocated to address water loss from pipes installed until the mid-1980s, saving an estimated $2.7 million in financing costs. An additional $10 million will expand the reclaimed water infrastructure through the Travis Heights Purple Pipe project, connecting two service areas whilst saving approximately $1.1 million. Combined with a recent debt defeasance transaction saving $49.6 million, Austin Water's cumulative savings since 2016 now exceed $675 million.
